25:1
Hae quoque parabolae Salomonis, quas transtulerunt viri Ezechiae regis Juda.
以下也是所羅門的箴言，是猶大王希西家的人所謄錄的。
These also are proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
25:2
Gloria Dei est celare verbum, et gloria regum investigare sermonem.
將事隱祕乃上帝的榮耀； 將事察清乃君王的榮耀。
It is the glory of God to conceal a thing, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.
25:3
Caelum sursum, et terra deorsum, et cor regum inscrutabile.
天之高，地之厚， 君王之心也測不透。
As the heavens for height, and the earth for depth, so the hearts of kings are unsearchable.
25:4
Aufer rubiginem de argento, et egredietur vas purissimum.
除去銀子的渣滓就有銀子出來， 銀匠能以做器皿。
Take away the dross from the silver, and material comes out for the refiner.
25:5
Aufer impietatem de vultu regis, et firmabitur justitia thronus ejus.
除去王面前的惡人， 國位就靠公義堅立。
Take away the wicked from the king’s presence, and his throne will be established in righteousness.
25:6
Ne gloriosus appareas coram rege, et in loco magnorum ne steteris.
不要在王面前妄自尊大； 不要在大人的位上站立。
Don’t exalt yourself in the presence of the king, or claim a place among great men;
25:7
Melius est enim ut dicatur tibi : Ascende huc, quam ut humilieris coram principe.
寧可有人說：請你上來， 強如在你覲見的王子面前叫你退下。
for it is better that it be said to you, “Come up here,” than that you should be put lower in the presence of the prince, whom your eyes have seen.
25:8
Quae viderunt oculi tui ne proferas in jurgio cito, ne postea emendare non possis, cum dehonestaveris amicum tuum.
不要冒失出去與人爭競， 免得至終被他羞辱， 你就不知道怎樣行了。
Don’t be hasty in bringing charges to court. What will you do in the end when your neighbor shames you?
25:9
Causam tuam tracta cum amico tuo, et secretum extraneo ne reveles :
你與鄰舍爭訟， 要與他一人辯論， 不可洩漏人的密事，
Debate your case with your neighbor, and don’t betray the confidence of another,
25:10
ne forte insultet tibi cum audierit, et exprobrare non cesset. Gratia et amicitia liberant : quas tibi serva, ne exprobrabilis fias.
恐怕聽見的人罵你， 你的臭名就難以脫離。
lest one who hears it put you to shame, and your bad reputation never depart.
25:11
Mala aurea in lectis argenteis, qui loquitur verbum in tempore suo.
一句話說得合宜， 就如金蘋果在銀網子裏。
A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.
25:12
Inauris aurea, et margaritum fulgens, qui arguit sapientem et aurem obedientem.
智慧人的勸戒，在順從的人耳中， 好像金耳環和精金的妝飾。
As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover to an obedient ear.
25:13
Sicut frigus nivis in die messis, ita legatus fidelis ei qui misit eum : animam ipsius requiescere facit.
忠信的使者叫差他的人心裏舒暢， 就如在收割時有冰雪的涼氣。
As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to those who send him; for he refreshes the soul of his masters.
25:14
Nubes, et ventus, et pluviae non sequentes, vir gloriosus et promissa non complens.
空誇贈送禮物的， 好像無雨的風雲。
As clouds and wind without rain, so is he who boasts of gifts deceptively.
25:15
Patientia lenietur princeps, et lingua mollis confringet duritiam.
恆常忍耐可以勸動君王； 柔和的舌頭能折斷骨頭。
By patience a ruler is persuaded. A soft tongue breaks the bone.
25:16
Mel invenisti : comede quod sufficit tibi, ne forte satiatus evomas illud.
你得了蜜嗎？只可吃夠而已， 恐怕你過飽就嘔吐出來。
Have you found honey? Eat as much as is sufficient for you, lest you eat too much, and vomit it.
25:17
Subtrahe pedem tuum de domo proximi tui, nequando satiatus oderit te.
你的腳要少進鄰舍的家， 恐怕他厭煩你，恨惡你。
Let your foot be seldom in your neighbor’s house, lest he be weary of you, and hate you.
25:18
Jaculum, et gladius, et sagitta acuta, homo qui loquitur contra proximum suum falsum testimonium.
作假見證陷害鄰舍的， 就是大槌，是利刀，是快箭。
A man who gives false testimony against his neighbor is like a club, a sword, or a sharp arrow.
25:19
Dens putridus, et pes lassus, qui sperat super infideli in die angustiae,
患難時倚靠不忠誠的人， 好像破壞的牙，錯骨縫的腳。
Confidence in someone unfaithful in time of trouble is like a bad tooth or a lame foot.
25:20
et amittit pallium in die frigoris. Acetum in nitro, qui cantat carmina cordi pessimo. Sicut tinea vestimento, et vermis ligno, ita tristitia viri nocet cordi.
對傷心的人唱歌， 就如冷天脫衣服， 又如鹼上倒醋。
As one who takes away a garment in cold weather, or vinegar on soda, so is one who sings songs to a heavy heart.
25:21
Si esurierit inimicus tuus, ciba illum ; si sitierit, da ei aquam bibere :
你的仇敵若餓了，就給他飯吃； 若渴了，就給他水喝；
If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat. If he is thirsty, give him water to drink;
25:22
prunas enim congregabis super caput ejus, et Dominus reddet tibi.
因為，你這樣行就是把炭火堆在他的頭上； 耶和華也必賞賜你。
for you will heap coals of fire on his head, and Yahweh will reward you.
25:23
Ventus aquilo dissipat pluvias, et facies tristis linguam detrahentem.
北風生雨， 讒謗人的舌頭也生怒容。
The north wind produces rain; so a backbiting tongue brings an angry face.
25:24
Melius est sedere in angulo domatis quam cum muliere litigiosa et in domo communi.
寧可住在房頂的角上， 不在寬闊的房屋與爭吵的婦人同住。
It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop than to share a house with a contentious woman.
25:25
Aqua frigida animae sitienti, et nuntius bonus de terra longinqua.
有好消息從遠方來， 就如拿涼水給口渴的人喝。
Like cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
25:26
Fons turbatus pede et vena corrupta, justus cadens coram impio.
義人在惡人面前退縮， 好像詵渾之泉，弄濁之井。
Like a muddied spring and a polluted well, so is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.
25:27
Sicut qui mel multum comedit non est ei bonum, sic qui scrutator est majestatis opprimetur a gloria.
吃蜜過多是不好的； 考究自己的榮耀也是可厭的。
It is not good to eat much honey, nor is it honorable to seek one’s own honor.
25:28
Sicut urbs patens et absque murorum ambitu, ita vir qui non potest in loquendo cohibere spiritum suum.
人不制伏自己的心， 好像毀壞的城邑沒有牆垣。
Like a city that is broken down and without walls is a man whose spirit is without restraint.
