20:1
Luxuriosa res vinum, et tumultuosa ebrietas : quicumque his delectatur non erit sapiens.
酒能使人褻慢,濃酒使人喧嚷; 凡因酒錯誤的,就無智慧。
Wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise.
20:2
Sicut rugitus leonis, ita et terror regis : qui provocat eum peccat in animam suam.
王的威嚇如同獅子吼叫; 惹動他怒的,是自害己命。
The terror of a king is like the roaring of a lion. He who provokes him to anger forfeits his own life.
20:3
Honor est homini qui separat se a contentionibus ; omnes autem stulti miscentur contumeliis.
遠離紛爭是人的尊榮; 愚妄人都愛爭鬧。
It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife, but every fool will be quarreling.
20:4
Propter frigus piger arare noluit ; mendicabit ergo aestate, et non dabitur illi.
懶惰人因冬寒不肯耕種, 到收割的時候,他必討飯而無所得。
The sluggard will not plow by reason of the winter; therefore he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.
20:5
Sicut aqua profunda, sic consilium in corde viri ; sed homo sapiens exhauriet illud.
人心懷藏謀略,好像深水, 惟明哲人才能汲引出來。
Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out.
20:6
Multi homines misericordes vocantur ; virum autem fidelem quis inveniet ?
人多述說自己的仁慈, 但忠信人誰能遇着呢?
Many men claim to be men of unfailing love, but who can find a faithful man?
20:7
Justus qui ambulat in simplicitate sua beatos post se filios derelinquet.
行為純正的義人, 他的子孫是有福的!
A righteous man walks in integrity. Blessed are his children after him.
20:8
Rex qui sedet in solio judicii dissipat omne malum intuitu suo.
王坐在審判的位上, 以眼目驅散諸惡。
A king who sits on the throne of judgment scatters away all evil with his eyes.
20:9
Quis potest dicere : Mundum est cor meum ; purus sum a peccato ?
誰能說,我潔淨了我的心, 我脫淨了我的罪?
Who can say, “I have made my heart pure. I am clean and without sin”?
20:10
Pondus et pondus, mensura et mensura : utrumque abominabile est apud Deum.
兩樣的法碼,兩樣的升斗, 都為耶和華所憎惡。
Differing weights and differing measures, both of them alike are an abomination to Yahweh.
20:11
Ex studiis suis intelligitur puer, si munda et recta sint opera ejus.
孩童的動作是清潔,是正直, 都顯明他的本性。
Even a child makes himself known by his doings, whether his work is pure, and whether it is right.
20:12
Aurem audientem, et oculum videntem : Dominus fecit utrumque.
能聽的耳,能看的眼, 都是耶和華所造的。
The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, Yahweh has made even both of them.
20:13
Noli diligere somnum, ne te egestas opprimat : aperi oculos tuos, et saturare panibus.
不要貪睡,免致貧窮; 眼要睜開,你就吃飽。
Don’t love sleep, lest you come to poverty. Open your eyes, and you shall be satisfied with bread.
20:14
Malum est, malum est, dicit omnis emptor ; et cum recesserit, tunc gloriabitur.
買物的說:不好,不好; 及至買去,他便自誇。
“It’s no good, it’s no good,” says the buyer; but when he is gone his way, then he boasts.
20:15
Est aurum et multitudo gemmarum, et vas pretiosum labia scientiae.
有金子和許多珍珠 , 惟有知識的嘴乃為貴重的珍寶。
There is gold and abundance of rubies, but the lips of knowledge are a rare jewel.
20:16
Tolle vestimentum ejus qui fidejussor extitit alieni, et pro extraneis aufer pignus ab eo.
誰為生人作保,就拿誰的衣服; 誰為外人作保,誰就要承當。
Take the garment of one who puts up collateral for a stranger; and hold him in pledge for a wayward woman.
20:17
Suavis est homini panis mendacii, et postea implebitur os ejus calculo.
以虛謊而得的食物,人覺甘甜; 但後來,他的口必充滿塵沙。
Fraudulent food is sweet to a man, but afterwards his mouth is filled with gravel.
20:18
Cogitationes consiliis roborantur, et gubernaculis tractanda sunt bella.
計謀都憑籌算立定; 打仗要憑智謀。
Plans are established by advice; by wise guidance you wage war!
20:19
Ei qui revelat mysteria, et ambulat fraudulenter, et dilatat labia sua, ne commiscearis.
往來傳舌的,洩漏密事; 大張嘴的,不可與他結交。
He who goes about as a tale-bearer reveals secrets; therefore don’t keep company with him who opens wide his lips.
20:20
Qui maledicit patri suo et matri, extinguetur lucerna ejus in mediis tenebris :
咒罵父母的,他的燈必滅, 變為漆黑的黑暗。
Whoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in blackness of darkness.
20:21
haereditas ad quam festinatur in principio, in novissimo benedictione carebit.
起初速得的產業, 終久卻不為福。
An inheritance quickly gained at the beginning won’t be blessed in the end.
20:22
Ne dicas : Reddam malum : exspecta Dominum, et liberabit te.
你不要說,我要以惡報惡; 要等候耶和華,他必拯救你。
Don’t say, “I will pay back evil.” Wait for Yahweh, and he will save you.
20:23
Abominatio est apud Dominum pondus et pondus ; statera dolosa non est bona.
兩樣的法碼為耶和華所憎惡; 詭詐的天平也為不善。
Yahweh detests differing weights, and dishonest scales are not pleasing.
20:24
A Domino diriguntur gressus viri : quis autem hominum intelligere potest viam suam ?
人的腳步為耶和華所定; 人豈能明白自己的路呢?
A man’s steps are from Yahweh; how then can man understand his way?
20:25
Ruina est homini devorare sanctos, et post vota retractare.
人冒失說,這是聖物, 許願之後才查問,就是自陷網羅。
It is a snare to a man to make a rash dedication, then later to consider his vows.
20:26
Dissipat impios rex sapiens, et incurvat super eos fornicem.
智慧的王簸散惡人, 用碌碡滾軋他們。
A wise king winnows out the wicked, and drives the threshing wheel over them.
20:27
Lucerna Domini spiraculum hominis, quae investigat omnia secreta ventris.
人的靈是耶和華的燈, 鑒察人的心腹。
The spirit of man is Yahweh’s lamp, searching all his innermost parts.
20:28
Misericordia et veritas custodiunt regem, et roboratur clementia thronus ejus.
王因仁慈和誠實得以保全他的國位, 也因仁慈立穩。
Love and faithfulness keep the king safe. His throne is sustained by love.
20:29
Exsultatio juvenum fortitudo eorum, et dignitas senum canities.
強壯乃少年人的榮耀; 白髮為老年人的尊榮。
The glory of young men is their strength. The splendor of old men is their gray hair.
20:30
Livor vulneris absterget mala, et plagae in secretioribus ventris.
鞭傷除淨人的罪惡; 責打能入人的心腹。
Wounding blows cleanse away evil, and beatings purge the innermost parts.
