And he called out against the altar by the word of the Lord and said: Altar, altar, thus says the Lord: Behold, a son is born to the house of David, Iosias is his name, and he shall sacrifice upon you the priests of the high places who offer sacrifice upon you, and he shall burn human bones upon you.
And he gave a portent that day, saying: This is the word which the Lord spoke, saying: Behold, the altar is torn apart, and the fatness upon it shall be poured out.
And it happened, when king Jeroboam heard the words of the man of God who called out against the altar in Baithel, that the king stretched out his hand from the altar, saying: Seize him! And behold, his hand which he stretched out against him was dried up, and he could not draw it back to himself.
And the altar was torn apart and the fatness was poured out from the altar, according to the portent which the man of God had given by the word of the Lord.
And king Jeroboam said to the man of God: Entreat the face of the Lord your God, and let my hand be restored to me. And the man of God entreated the face of the Lord, and he restored the king's hand to him, and it became as it was before.
And one prophet, an old man, dwelt in Baithel; and his sons come and recounted to him all the works which the man of God did that day in Baithel, and the words which he spoke to the king; and they turned the face of their father.
And he went after the man of God and found him sitting under an oak, and he said to him: Are you the man of God who has come from Judah? And he said to him: I am.
And he said to him: I too am a prophet like you, and an angel has spoken to me by the word of the Lord, saying: Bring him back with you to your house, and let him eat bread and drink water. And he lied to him.
And he said to the man of God who had come from Judah, saying: Thus says the Lord: Because you embittered the word of the Lord and did not keep the commandment which the Lord your God commanded you,
and you returned and ate bread and drank water in this place of which he spoke to you, saying: Do not eat bread and do not drink water, therefore your body shall not enter the tomb of your fathers.
And he went away, and a lion found him on the road and put him to death; and his body was thrown down on the road, and the donkey was standing beside it, and the lion was standing beside the body.
And behold, men passing by saw the corpse thrown down on the road, and the lion standing close by the corpse; and they came in and spoke of it in the city where the old prophet dwelt.
And he went and found his body thrown down on the road, and the donkey and the lion were standing beside the body; and the lion had not eaten the body of the man of God and had not crushed the donkey.
And it happened, after he had mourned him, that he said to his sons, saying: If I die, bury me in this tomb in which the man of God is buried; lay me beside his bones, that my bones may be preserved with his bones.
And after this thing Jeroboam did not turn from his wickedness; and he turned back and made priests of the high places from a part of the people: whoever wished, he filled his hand, and he became a priest for the high places.
