And Achaab reported to Iezabel his wife all that Eliou had done, and how he had killed the prophets with the sword.

And Iezabel sent to Eliou and said: If you are Eliou, then I am Iezabel: so may God do to me and more also, if by this hour tomorrow I do not make your life like the life of one of them.

And Eliou was afraid, and he rose and went away for his life, and he comes to Bersabee of Iouda and left his servant boy there.

And he himself went a day's journey in the wilderness, and came and sat down under a single rathm; and he asked that his life might die, and said: Let it be enough now; take my life from me, Lord, for I am no better than my fathers.

And he lay down and slept there under a shrub; and behold, someone touched him and said to him: Rise and eat.

And Eliou looked, and behold, at his head a cake of spelt and a cruse of water; and he rose and ate and drank, and turned and lay down again.

And the angel of the Lord returned a second time and touched him and said to him: Rise, eat, for the journey is far from you.

And he rose and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights, as far as Mount Choreb.

And he went in there into the cave and lodged there. And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said: What are you doing here, Eliou?

And Eliou said: I have been very zealous for the Lord Almighty, because the sons of Israel have forsaken you, torn down your altars and killed your prophets with the sword; and I alone am left, and they seek my life, to take it.

And he said: You shall go out tomorrow and stand before the Lord on the mountain. Behold, the Lord will pass by. And a great strong wind, tearing apart mountains and shattering rocks before the Lord — the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake — the Lord was not in the earthquake.

And after the earthquake a fire — the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire, a sound of a light breeze, and there was the Lord.

And when Eliou heard it, he covered his face with his own sheepskin mantle and went out and stood beneath the cave. And behold, a voice came to him, and it said: What are you doing here, Eliou?

And Eliou said: I have been very zealous for the Lord Almighty, because the sons of Israel have forsaken your covenant, pulled down your altars and killed your prophets with the sword; and I alone am left, and they seek my life, to take it.

And the Lord said to him: Go, return on your way, and you shall come to the way of the wilderness of Damascus, and you shall anoint Azael to be king of Syria.

And Iou son of Namessi you shall anoint to be king over Israel, and Elisaie son of Saphat from Abelmaoula you shall anoint to be prophet in your place.

And it shall be that whoever escapes the sword of Azael, Iou shall put to death; and whoever escapes the sword of Iou, Elisaie shall put to death.

And you shall leave in Israel seven thousand men, all the knees that have not bowed the knee to Baal, and every mouth that has not done obeisance to him.

And he departed from there and finds Elisaie son of Saphat, and he was ploughing with oxen, twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he himself among the twelve. And he came up to him and threw his sheepskin mantle upon him.

And Elisaie left the oxen and ran after Eliou and said: I will kiss my father, and I will follow after you. And Eliou said: Turn back, for I have done this to you.

And he turned back from following him and took the yoke of oxen and sacrificed them and boiled them with the gear of the oxen and gave to the people, and they ate. And he rose up and went after Eliou and ministered to him.
