And he remained three years, and there was no war between Syria and Israel.

And it came about in the third year that Iosaphat king of Iouda went down to the king of Israel.

And the king of Israel said to his servants: Do you know that Remmath Galaad is ours, and we keep silent about taking it out of the hand of the king of Syria?

And the king of Israel said to Iosaphat: Will you go up with us to Remmath Galaad to battle? And Iosaphat said: As I am, so also are you; as my people, so your people; as my horses, so your horses.

And Iosaphat king of Iouda said to the king of Israel: Inquire, please, of the Lord today.

And the king of Israel gathered all the prophets together, about four hundred men, and the king said to them: Shall I go to Remmath Galaad to battle, or shall I hold back? And they said: Go up, and the Lord will surely give it into the hands of the king.

And Iosaphat said to the king of Israel: Is there not here a prophet of the Lord, that we may inquire of the Lord through him?

And the king of Israel said to Iosaphat: There is still one man by whom to inquire of the Lord, but I have hated him, because he does not speak good concerning me, but only evil — Michaias son of Iemla. And Iosaphat king of Iouda said: Let not the king speak so.

And the king of Israel called one eunuch and said: Quickly, Michaias son of Iemla!

And the king of Israel and Iosaphat king of Iouda were sitting, each man on his own throne, in armour, at the gates of Samaria, and all the prophets were prophesying before them.

And Sedekias son of Chanana made himself horns of iron and said: Thus says the Lord: With these you shall gore Syria until it is finished off.

And all the prophets were prophesying so, saying: Go up to Remmath Galaad, and you will prosper, and the Lord will give into your hands also the king of Syria.

And the messenger who went to call Michaias spoke to him, saying: Behold now, all the prophets speak with one mouth good things concerning the king; let your words now also be like the words of one of them, and speak good.

And Michaias said: As the Lord lives, whatever the Lord may say to me, that I will speak.

And he came to the king, and the king said to him: Michaias, shall I go up to Remmath Galaad to battle, or shall I hold back? And he said: Go up, and you will prosper, and the Lord will give it into the hand of the king.

And the king said to him: How many times must I adjure you to speak the truth to me in the name of the Lord?

And Michaias said: Not so. I have seen all Israel scattered on the mountains, like a flock that has no shepherd. And the Lord said: These have no master; let each return to his own house in peace.

And the king of Israel said to Iosaphat king of Iouda: Did I not say to you that this man does not prophesy good concerning me, but rather evil?

And Michaias said: Not so. Not I. Hear the word of the Lord. Not so: I saw the Lord God of Israel sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven was standing around him, on his right and on his left.

And the Lord said: Who will entice Achaab king of Israel, so that he will go up and fall at Remmath Galaad? And this one spoke thus, and that one thus.

And a spirit came out and stood before the Lord and said: I will entice him. And the Lord said to him: By what means?

And he said: I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said: You will entice, and indeed you will prevail; go out and do so.

And now, behold, the Lord has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these prophets of yours, and the Lord has spoken evil against you.

And Sedekiou son of Chanana came near and struck Michaias on the cheek and said: What sort of spirit of the Lord is this that spoke in you?

And Michaias said: Behold, you will see in that day when you enter the chamber within the chamber to hide.

And the king of Israel said: Take Michaias and turn him back to Emer the ruler of the city and to Ioas the king's son;

Say: Put this man in prison and let him eat bread of affliction and water of affliction, until I return in peace.

And Michaias said: If you indeed return in peace, the Lord has not spoken by me.

And the king of Israel went up, and Iosaphat king of Iouda with him, to Remmath Galaad.

And the king of Israel said to Iosaphat king of Iouda: I will disguise myself and enter into the battle, and you put on my clothing. And the king of Israel disguised himself and entered into the battle.

And the king of Syria commanded his thirty-two commanders of chariots, saying: Do not fight small or great, but only the king of Israel alone.

And it happened, when the commanders of the chariots saw Iosaphat king of Iouda, they themselves said: This appears to be the king of Israel. And they surrounded him to fight, and Iosaphat cried out.

And it happened, when the commanders of the chariots saw that this was not the king of Israel, they turned back from him.

And a certain man drew the bow with sure aim and struck the king of Israel between the lung and the breastplate. And he said to his charioteer: Turn your hands and bring me out of the battle, for I am wounded.

And the battle turned to rout on that day, and the king was standing on the chariot facing Syria from morning until evening; and he was pouring out the blood from the wound into the hollow of the chariot, and he died in the evening; and the blood of the rout was flowing out as far as the hollow of the chariot.

And the herald of the army stood at the setting of the sun, saying: Each one to his own city and to his own land.

For the king had died. And they came to Samaria and buried the king in Samaria.

And they washed the chariot at the spring of Samaria, and the swine and the dogs licked up the blood, and the prostitutes washed themselves in the blood, according to the word of the Lord which he spoke.

And the rest of the words of Achaab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he built, and all the cities which he made — behold, are these not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?

And Achaab slept with his fathers, and Ochozias his son reigned in his place.

And Iosaphat son of Asa reigned over Iouda; in the fourth year of Achaab king of Israel he began to reign.

Iosaphat was a son of thirty-five years when he became king, and he reigned twenty-five years in Ierousalem, and his mother's name was Azouba daughter of Selei.

And he walked in all the way of Asa his father; he did not turn aside from it, to do what was right in the eyes of the Lord.

Only he did not remove the high places; the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.

And Iosaphat was at peace with the king of Israel.

And the rest of the words of Iosaphat, and his mighty deeds, whatever he did — behold, are these not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Iouda?

And Iosaphat slept with his fathers and was buried beside his fathers in the city of David his father, and Ioram his son reigned in his place.

And Ochozias son of Achaab began to reign over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Iosaphat king of Iouda, and he reigned over Israel two years.

And he did what was evil before the Lord and walked in the way of Achaab his father and in the way of Iezabel his mother and in the sins of the house of Ieroboam son of Nabat, who caused Israel to sin.

And he served the Baalim and worshipped them and provoked to anger the Lord God of Israel, according to all the things that had happened before him.
