But to that information it would be fitting to add this, indicating that in the sixth of his Expositions on the Gospel according to John he signifies that he composed the first five while he was still at Alexandria; but of this same work on the whole Gospel only twenty-two tomes have come down to us.
And in the ninth of those on Genesis (there are twelve in all) he shows that not only those before the ninth were written as commentaries at Alexandria, but also those on the first twenty-five Psalms, and besides these those on the Lamentations, of which five tomes have come to us. In these he mentions also those On the Resurrection, of which there are two.
Moreover, he wrote his work On First Principles before his removal from Alexandria, and he composed the ten books entitled Stromateis in the same city in the reign of Alexander, as is shown also by the annotations in his own hand in front of the tomes.
