He wrote also to those in Egypt a letter concerning repentance, in which he set forth his judgements regarding those who had lapsed, marking out the ranks of transgressions.
46:2
And to Conon (he was bishop of the diocese of the Hermopolitans) a separate writing of his concerning repentance is extant; and another, of an admonitory nature, addressed to his flock at Alexandria. Among these is also the one on martyrdom written to Origen; and he writes likewise to the brethren in Laodicea, over whom Thelymidres was bishop, concerning repentance, and to those in Armenia in the same way, whose bishop was Meruzanes.
46:3
Besides all these, he writes also to Cornelius at Rome, having received his letter against Novatus; in which he signifies, making it plain, that he himself had been invited by Helenus, the bishop in Tarsus of Cilicia, and by the rest who were with him—namely Firmilian in Cappadocia and Theoctistus in Palestine—to attend the synod at Antioch, where certain men were attempting to strengthen the schism of Novatus.
46:4
In addition, he writes that it had been made known to him that Fabius had fallen asleep, and that Demetrian had been appointed his successor in the episcopate at Antioch. He writes also concerning the bishop in Jerusalem, saying in these very words: “For the blessed Alexander, having been put in prison, blessedly entered into his rest.”
46:5
Next to this letter, yet another of Dionysius is extant, a diaconic letter to those in Rome, sent through Hippolytus. To the same people he composes another concerning peace, and likewise concerning repentance; and again yet another to the confessors there, who were still in agreement with the opinion of Novatus. And to these same persons, after they had come over to the Church, he writes two more. And having conversed by letter in like manner with many others on various matters, he has left behind manifold benefits for those who even now to this day give diligent attention to his words.
