ℹ️ This corpus has no verse-level morphological tagging. Lemmas come mainly from word-level tagging of other books in the same language (not from this verse), falling back to dictionary form-matching for the rest. Rare homographs can still be misread; verify against the original and a specialist lexicon where precision matters.

Beryllus, who, as was indicated a little before, was bishop of Bostra in Arabia, perverting the ecclesiastical canon, attempted to bring in certain things foreign to the faith, daring to say that our Saviour and Lord did not pre-exist in an individual circumscription of substance before His coming to dwell among men, nor possessed a divinity of His own, but only the Father's dwelling within Him.
On this account, when very many bishops had held inquiries and discussions with the man, Origen, invited along with others, first came down to a conversation with the man, testing what his mind was; and when he had learnt what it was that he asserted, he set straight what was unorthodox, and, persuading him by reasoning and taking hold of him by demonstration, established him in the truth concerning the doctrine, and restored him to his former sound opinion.
And there are still extant to this very day writings of both Beryllus and of the synod held on his account, which contain together Origen's inquiries put to him, and the discussions held in his own community, and each of the things done at that time.
And indeed the elders of our day hand down by memory countless other things concerning Origen, which I think I shall pass over, as not pertaining to the present work; but whatever it was necessary to learn of the things concerning him, these one may gather also from the Apology composed on his behalf by us and by Pamphilus, that holy martyr of our day, which we, labouring together with one another, made with diligence for the sake of fault-finders.
