Illi autem qui tam infirmi sunt, ut possessionibus suis renunliare non possint, si ea quæ accepturi erant, dispensatori relinquant, nihil habentibus conferenda, sine peccato possident sua: quia et ipsi quodammodo sua relinquunt, quando propriis contenti rebus, nihil eorum quæ labori, vel ordini suo deberi arbitrantur accipiunt. Quod si putant ideo g accipi debere eorum quae conferuntur ecclesiae portionem, ne eam videantur abjicere, se vero non posse sua relinquere, quod eis deforme sit inter suos, paupcres reddi; noverint esse derormius possessores de eleemosynis pauPerum pasci.
But those who are so weak that they cannot renounce their possessions, if they leave to the steward the things they were about to receive—things to be conferred upon those who have nothing—possess their own without sin: because they too in a certain manner relinquish their own, when, content with their own goods, they receive nothing of those things which they judge to be owed to their labor or their rank. But if they think that a portion of the things conferred on the Church ought to be received by them on this account—lest they seem to reject it, while they themselves cannot relinquish their own, because it would be unbecoming for them to be made poor among their own people—let them know that it is more unbecoming for possessors to be fed on the alms of the poor.
但那些軟弱到不能棄絕自己產業的人,他們若把本要領受之物——那本該分給一無所有之人之物——留給管家,便可無罪地擁有自己的所有:因為他們既以自己的財物為足,不領取那他們判定為當酬其勞苦或當配其品階之物,這樣他們也算是以某種方式撇下了自己的所有。但他們若以為該為此緣故領受奉獻給教會之物的一分——免得顯為拒絕它,因為他們既不能撇下自己的所有,又認為在自己的人中淪為貧窮是不光彩的——他們就當知道:有產業的人靠窮人的施捨而得餵養,乃是更不光彩的事。
