14:1
Homo natus de muliere, brevi vivens tempore, repletur multis miseriis.
人為婦人所生, 日子短少,多有患難;
“Man, who is born of a woman, is of few days, and full of trouble.
14:2
Qui quasi flos egreditur et conteritur, et fugit velut umbra, et numquam in eodem statu permanet.
出來如花,又被割下, 飛去如影,不能存留。
He grows up like a flower, and is cut down. He also flees like a shadow, and doesn’t continue.
14:3
Et dignum ducis super hujuscemodi aperire oculos tuos, et adducere eum tecum in judicium ?
這樣的人你豈睜眼看他嗎? 又叫我來受審嗎?
Do you open your eyes on such a one, and bring me into judgment with you?
14:4
Quis potest facere mundum de immundo conceptum semine ? nonne tu qui solus es ?
誰能使潔淨之物出於污穢之中呢? 無論誰也不能!
Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? Not one.
14:5
Breves dies hominis sunt : numerus mensium ejus apud te est : constituisti terminos ejus, qui praeteriri non poterunt.
人的日子既然限定, 他的月數在你那裏, 你也派定他的界限,使他不能越過,
Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months is with you, and you have appointed his bounds that he can’t pass.
14:6
Recede paululum ab eo, ut quiescat, donec optata veniat, sicut mercenarii, dies ejus.
便求你轉眼不看他,使他得歇息, 直等他像雇工人完畢他的日子。
Look away from him, that he may rest, until he accomplishes, as a hireling, his day.
14:7
Lignum habet spem : si praecisum fuerit, rursum virescit, et rami ejus pullulant.
樹若被砍下, 還可指望發芽, 嫩枝生長不息;
“For there is hope for a tree if it is cut down, that it will sprout again, that the tender branch of it will not cease.
14:8
Si senuerit in terra radix ejus, et in pulvere emortuus fuerit truncus illius,
其根雖然衰老在地裏, 幹也死在土中,
Though its root grows old in the earth, and its stock dies in the ground,
14:9
ad odorem aquae germinabit, et faciet comam, quasi cum primum plantatum est.
及至得了水氣,還要發芽, 又長枝條,像新栽的樹一樣。
yet through the scent of water it will bud, and sprout boughs like a plant.
14:10
Homo vero cum mortuus fuerit, et nudatus, atque consumptus, ubi, quaeso, est ?
但人死亡而消滅; 他氣絕,竟在何處呢?
But man dies, and is laid low. Yes, man gives up the spirit, and where is he?
14:11
Quomodo si recedant aquae de mari, et fluvius vacuefactus arescat :
海中的水絕盡, 江河消散乾涸。
As the waters fail from the sea, and the river wastes and dries up,
14:12
sic homo, cum dormierit, non resurget : donec atteratur caelum, non evigilabit, nec consurget de somno suo.
人也是如此,躺下不再起來, 等到天沒有了,仍不得復醒, 也不得從睡中喚醒。
so man lies down and doesn’t rise. Until the heavens are no more, they will not awake, nor be roused out of their sleep.
14:13
Quis mihi hoc tribuat, ut in inferno protegas me, et abscondas me donec pertranseat furor tuus, et constituas mihi tempus in quo recorderis mei ?
惟願你把我藏在陰間, 存於隱密處,等你的忿怒過去; 願你為我定了日期,記念我。
“Oh that you would hide me in Sheol, that you would keep me secret until your wrath is past, that you would appoint me a set time and remember me!
14:14
Putasne mortuus homo rursum vivat ? cunctis diebus quibus nunc milito, expecto donec veniat immutatio mea.
人若死了豈能再活呢? 我只要在我一切爭戰的日子, 等我被釋放 的時候來到。
If a man dies, will he live again? I would wait all the days of my warfare, until my release should come.
14:15
Vocabis me, et ego respondebo tibi : operi manuum tuarum porriges dexteram.
你呼叫,我便回答; 你手所做的,你必羨慕。
You would call, and I would answer you. You would have a desire for the work of your hands.
14:16
Tu quidem gressus meos dinumerasti : sed parce peccatis meis.
但如今你數點我的腳步, 豈不窺察我的罪過嗎?
But now you count my steps. Don’t you watch over my sin?
14:17
Signasti quasi in sacculo delicta mea, sed curasti iniquitatem meam.
我的過犯被你封在囊中, 也縫嚴了我的罪孽。
My disobedience is sealed up in a bag. You fasten up my iniquity.
14:18
Mons cadens defluit, et saxum transfertur de loco suo :
山崩變為無有; 磐石挪開原處。
“But the mountain falling comes to nothing. The rock is removed out of its place.
14:19
lapides excavant aquae, et alluvione paulatim terra consumitur : et hominem ergo similiter perdes.
水流消磨石頭, 所流溢的洗去地上的塵土; 你也照樣滅絕人的指望。
The waters wear the stones. The torrents of it wash away the dust of the earth. So you destroy the hope of man.
14:20
Roborasti eum paululum, ut in perpetuum transiret : immutabis faciem ejus, et emittes eum.
你攻擊人常常得勝,使他去世; 你改變他的容貌,叫他往而不回。
You forever prevail against him, and he departs. You change his face, and send him away.
14:21
Sive nobiles fuerint filii ejus, sive ignobiles, non intelliget.
他兒子得尊榮,他也不知道, 降為卑,他也不覺得。
His sons come to honor, and he doesn’t know it. They are brought low, but he doesn’t perceive it of them.
14:22
Attamen caro ejus, dum vivet, dolebit, et anima illius super semetipso lugebit.
但知身上疼痛, 心中悲哀。
But his flesh on him has pain, and his soul within him mourns.”
