4:1
Respondens autem Eliphaz Themanites, dixit :
提幔人以利法回答說：
Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered,
4:2
Si coeperimus loqui tibi, forsitan moleste accipies ; sed conceptum sermonem tenere quis poterit ?
人若想與你說話，你就厭煩嗎？ 但誰能忍住不說呢？
“If someone ventures to talk with you, will you be grieved? But who can withhold himself from speaking?
4:3
Ecce docuisti multos, et manus lassas roborasti ;
你素來教導許多的人， 又堅固軟弱的手。
Behold, you have instructed many, you have strengthened the weak hands.
4:4
vacillantes confirmaverunt sermones tui, et genua trementia confortasti.
你的言語曾扶助那將要跌倒的人； 你又使軟弱的膝穩固。
Your words have supported him who was falling, you have made the feeble knees firm.
4:5
Nunc autem venit super te plaga, et defecisti ; tetigit te, et conturbatus es.
但現在禍患臨到你，你就昏迷， 挨近你，你便驚惶。
But now it has come to you, and you faint. It touches you, and you are troubled.
4:6
Ubi est timor tuus, fortitudo tua, patientia tua, et perfectio viarum tuarum ?
你的倚靠不是在你敬畏上帝嗎？ 你的盼望不是在你行事純正嗎？
Isn’t your piety your confidence? Isn’t the integrity of your ways your hope?
4:7
Recordare, obsecro te, quis umquam innocens periit ? aut quando recti deleti sunt ?
請你追想：無辜的人有誰滅亡？ 正直的人在何處剪除？
“Remember, now, who ever perished, being innocent? Or where were the upright cut off?
4:8
Quin potius vidi eos qui operantur iniquitatem, et seminant dolores, et metunt eos,
按我所見，耕罪孽、種毒害的人 都照樣收割。
According to what I have seen, those who plow iniquity and sow trouble, reap the same.
4:9
flante Deo perisse, et spiritu irae ejus esse consumptos.
上帝一出氣，他們就滅亡； 上帝一發怒，他們就消沒。
By the breath of God they perish. By the blast of his anger are they consumed.
4:10
Rugitus leonis, et vox leaenae, et dentes catulorum leonum contriti sunt.
獅子的吼叫和猛獅的聲音盡都止息； 少壯獅子的牙齒也都敲掉。
The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, the teeth of the young lions, are broken.
4:11
Tigris periit, eo quod non haberet praedam, et catuli leonis dissipati sunt.
老獅子因絕食而死； 母獅之子也都離散。
The old lion perishes for lack of prey. The cubs of the lioness are scattered abroad.
4:12
Porro ad me dictum est verbum absconditum, et quasi furtive suscepit auris mea venas susurri ejus.
我暗暗地得了默示； 我耳朵也聽其細微的聲音。
“Now a thing was secretly brought to me. My ear received a whisper of it.
4:13
In horrore visionis nocturnae, quando solet sopor occupare homines,
在思念夜中、異象之間， 世人沉睡的時候，
In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on men,
4:14
pavor tenuit me, et tremor, et omnia ossa mea perterrita sunt ;
恐懼、戰兢臨到我身， 使我百骨打戰。
fear came on me, and trembling, which made all my bones shake.
4:15
et cum spiritus, me praesente, transiret, inhorruerunt pili carnis meae.
有靈從我面前經過， 我身上的毫毛直立。
Then a spirit passed before my face. The hair of my flesh stood up.
4:16
Stetit quidam, cujus non agnoscebam vultum, imago coram oculis meis, et vocem quasi aurae lenis audivi.
那靈停住， 我卻不能辨其形狀； 有影像在我眼前。 我在靜默中聽見有聲音說：
It stood still, but I couldn’t discern its appearance. A form was before my eyes. Silence, then I heard a voice, saying,
4:17
Numquid homo, Dei comparatione, justificabitur ? aut factore suo purior erit vir ?
必死的人豈能比上帝公義嗎？ 人豈能比造他的主潔淨嗎？
‘Shall mortal man be more just than God? Shall a man be more pure than his Maker?
4:18
Ecce qui serviunt ei, non sunt stabiles, et in angelis suis reperit pravitatem ;
主不信靠他的臣僕， 並且指他的使者為愚昧；
Behold, he puts no trust in his servants. He charges his angels with error.
4:19
quanto magis hi qui habitant domos luteas, qui terrenum habent fundamentum, consumentur velut a tinea ?
何況那住在土房、根基在塵土裏、 被蠹蟲所毀壞的人呢？
How much more those who dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed before the moth!
4:20
De mane usque ad vesperam succidentur ; et quia nullus intelligit, in aeternum peribunt.
早晚之間，就被毀滅， 永歸無有，無人理會。
Between morning and evening they are destroyed. They perish forever without any regarding it.
4:21
Qui autem reliqui fuerint, auferentur ex eis ; morientur, et non in sapientia.
他帳棚的繩索豈不從中抽出來呢？ 他死，且是無智慧而死。
Isn’t their tent cord plucked up within them? They die, and that without wisdom.’
