13:1
Qui tetigerit picem inquinabitur ab ea : et qui communicaverit superbo induet superbiam.
摸瀝青的必被沾污，與驕傲人來往的必變得與他一樣。
He that touches pitch will be defiled; And he that has fellowship with a proud man will become like to him.
13:2
Pondus super se tollat qui honestiori se communicat, et ditiori te ne socius fueris.
不要背負超過你能力的重擔，不要與比你強盛富有的人交往。瓦罐怎能與銅鍋相碰？這一碰，瓦罐必被撞碎。
Take not up a burden above your strength; And have no fellowship with one that is mightier and richer than yourself. What fellowship shall the earthen pot have with the kettle? This will strike, and that will be dashed in pieces.
13:3
Quid communicabit cacabus ad ollam ? quando enim se colliserint, confringetur.
富人行了不義，反倒威嚇人；窮人受了冤屈，還得向人哀求。
The rich man does a wrong, and he threatens withal: The poor is wronged, and he will entreat withal.
13:4
Dives injuste egit, et fremet : pauper autem læsus tacebit.
你若對他有用，他便利用你；你若有所缺乏，他便撇棄你。
If you be profitable, he will make merchandise of you; And if you be in lack, he will forsake you.
13:5
Si largitus fueris, assumet te : et si non habueris, derelinquet te.
你若有財物，他便與你同住，耗盡你的所有，自己卻毫不痛惜。
If you have substance, he will live with you; And he will make you bare, and will not be sorry.
13:6
Si habes, convivet tecum, et evacuabit te : et ipse non dolebit super te.
他若有求於你，便哄騙你，向你陪笑，給你盼望；他向你說好話，並說：『你需要什麼呢？』
Hath he had need of you? then he will deceive you, And smile upon you, and give you hope: He will speak you fair, and say, What need you?
13:7
Si necessarius illi fueris, supplantabit te, et subridens spem dabit, narrans tibi bona, et dicet : Quid opus est tibi ?
他以筵席使你蒙羞，直到把你榨乾兩三次，末了便譏笑你；此後他見了你，便撇棄你，向你搖頭。
And he will shame you by his meats, Until he have made you bare twice or thrice, And at the last he will laugh you to scorn: Afterward will he see you, and will forsake you, And shake his head at you.
13:8
Et confundet te in cibis suis, donec te exinaniat bis et ter : et in novissimo deridebit te, et postea videns derelinquet te, et caput suum movebit ad te.
要謹慎，免得你被哄騙，在你的歡樂中被貶為卑下。
Beware that you be not deceived, and brought low in your mirth.
13:9
Humiliare Deo, et exspecta manus ejus.
權貴若邀請你，你要退讓；他便會越發邀請你。
If a mighty man invite you, be retiring, And so much the more will he invite you.
13:10
Attende ne seductus in stultitiam humilieris.
不要硬擠上前，免得你被推回；也不要遠遠站開，免得你被遺忘。
Press not upon him, lest you be thrust back; And stand not far off, lest you be forgotten.
13:11
Noli esse humilis in sapientia tua, ne humiliatus in stultitiam seducaris.
不要妄想與他平起平坐，也不要輕信他的許多言語；因為他要用許多話試探你，並以陪笑來窺探你。
Affect not to speak with him as an equal, And believe not his many words: For with much talk will he try you, And in a smiling manner will search you out.
13:12
Advocatus a potentiore, discede : ex hoc enim magis te advocabit.
不為別人保守所說之言的，是無情的人，他必不顧惜，反要傷害人、捆綁人。
He that keeps not to himself words spoken is unmerciful; And he will not spare to hurt and to bind.
13:13
Ne improbus sis, ne impingaris : et ne longe sis ab eo, ne eas in oblivionem.
你要謹守自己的話，極其小心，因為你行走時是與自己的傾覆同行。
Keep them to yourself, and take earnest heed, For you walk in peril of your falling.
13:14
Ne retineas ex æquo loqui cum illo, nec credas multis verbis illius : ex multa enim loquela tentabit te, et subridens interrogabit te de absconditis tuis.
不要妄想與他平等說話，也不要輕信他的許多言語；因為他要用許多話試探你，並以陪笑探問你的隱私。
Do not be eager to converse with him as an equal, nor trust his many words; for by much talking he will test you, and smiling he will question you about your secrets.
13:15
Immitis animus illius conservabit verba tua : et non parcet de malitia, et de vinculis.
凡有生命的都喜愛與牠同類的，人也喜愛與自己相近的。
Every living creature loves his like, And every man loves his neighbor.
13:16
Cave tibi, et attende diligenter auditui tuo, quoniam cum subversione tua ambulas :
凡有血肉的都各從其類聚集，人也必與和自己相似的人相親。
All flesh consorts according to kind, And a man will cleave to his like.
13:17
audiens vero illa, quasi in somnis vide, et vigilabis.
狼與羊羔有什麼相交？罪人與敬虔人也是如此。
What fellowship shall the wolf have with the lamb? So is the sinner to the godly.
13:18
Omni vita tua dilige Deum, et invoca illum in salute tua.
鬣狗與狗之間有什麼和平？富人與窮人之間又有什麼和平？
What peace is there between the hyena and the dog? And what peace between the rich man and the poor?
13:19
Omne animal diligit simile sibi, sic et omnis homo proximum sibi.
野驢在曠野是獅子的獵物，窮人也是富人的草場。
Wild asses are the prey of lions in the wilderness; So poor men are pasture for the rich.
13:20
Omnis caro ad similem sibi conjungetur, et omnis homo simili sui sociabitur.
謙卑是驕傲人所憎惡的，照樣，窮人也是富人所憎惡的。
Lowliness is an abomination to a proud man; So a poor man is an abomination to the rich.
13:21
Si communicabit lupus agno aliquando, sic peccator justo.
富人搖搖欲墜時，有朋友扶持他；卑微人跌倒時，連朋友也把他推開。
A rich man when he is shaken is held up of his friends; But one of low degree being down is thrust away also by his friends.
13:22
Quæ communicatio sancto homini ad canem ? aut quæ pars diviti ad pauperem ?
富人跌倒時，有許多人扶持他；他說出不該說的話，人卻為他辯護。卑微人跌倒時，人反責備他；他說出見識的話，卻無人給他容身之地。
When a rich man is fallen, there are many helpers; He speaks things not to be spoken, and men justify him: A man of low degree falls, and men rebuke him withal; He utters wisdom, and no place is allowed him.
13:23
Venatio leonis onager in eremo : sic et pascua divitum sunt pauperes.
富人說話，眾人都靜默，並把他的言語高舉到雲端；窮人說話，人卻說：『這是誰呀？』他若失足，人便落井下石把他推倒。
A rich man speaks, and all keep silence; And what he says they extol to the clouds: A poor man speaks, and they say, Who is this? And if he stumble, they will help to overthrow him.
13:24
Et sicut abominatio est superbo humilitas, sic et execratio divitis pauper.
無罪的財富是好的，不敬虔人口中所說的貧窮卻是禍患。
Riches are good that have no sin; And poverty is evil in the mouth of the ungodly.
13:25
Dives commotus confirmatur ab amicis suis : humilis autem cum ceciderit, expelletur et a notis.
人的心使他的面容改變，或變為善，或變為惡。
The heart of a man changes his countenance, Whether it be for good or for evil.
13:26
Diviti decepto multi recuperatores : locutus est superbia, et justificaverunt illum.
歡愉的面容是心境順遂的記號，思索箴言卻是費力勞神的事。
A cheerful countenance is a token of a heart that is in prosperity; And the finding out of parables is a weariness of thinking.
