Igitur ubi Constantius Orientis regnum solus obtinuit, Constantino fratre non longe ab Aquileia apud Alsam fluvium a militibus interfecto, Constans utriusque germanus, Occidentem satis industrie gubernabat. Nam Constantius natura et animo regio, dum primis illis regni sui fautoribus satis indulget, per eunuchos arte in perfidiam decipitur a perversis sacerdotibus; et intento satis studio, pravis eorum contentionibus obsecundat.
於是當君士坦提烏獨得東方的統治——他的兄弟君士坦丁在離阿奎萊亞不遠的阿爾薩河邊被士兵殺害——他們二人的兄弟君士坦斯，正相當勤勉地治理西方。因為君士坦提烏本有王者的天性與心志，卻因過於縱容他在位之初的那些擁護者，便藉太監被乖僻的司祭狡猾地引入奸詐；他懷著頗為專注的熱心，順從了他們敗壞的爭競。
So when Constantius alone obtained the rule of the East—his brother Constantine having been killed by soldiers not far from Aquileia, by the river Alsa—Constans, the brother of both, was governing the West quite industriously. For Constantius, of royal nature and disposition, while he indulged too much those first supporters of his reign, was through the eunuchs craftily deceived into perfidy by perverse priests; and with a zeal quite intent, he complied with their depraved contentions.

Sed illi verentes, ne forte adeundi regis copia quandoque fieret Athanasio, et per eum de veritate fidei quam pervertebant, secundum Scripturas edoceretur, omnimodis insimulare eum apud principem, et velut si reum omnium scelerum ac flagitiorum adgrediuntur exponere, usquequo humani corporis brachium loculo delatum Imperatori ostendunt: quod ab Athanasio excisum magicae artis gratia de Arsenii cujusdam corpore confirmabant. Sed et alia quam plurima criminosa simul et flagitiosa componunt.
但他們惟恐有朝一日亞他那修得有覲見王的機會，藉他按聖經將他們所歪曲之信仰的真理教導王，便千方百計在君王面前控告他，把他描繪成彷彿犯了一切罪行與惡事的人，甚至向皇帝出示一隻裝在匣中帶來的人臂，硬說那是亞他那修為行邪術而從某個亞森紐的屍身上砍下來的。他們又同時捏造了許許多多既屬罪行又屬醜聞的事。
But they, fearing lest perchance opportunity of approaching the king should sometime be given to Athanasius, and through him the king be taught, according to the Scriptures, concerning the truth of the faith which they were perverting, set about in every way to accuse him before the prince and to expose him as if guilty of all crimes and outrages, until they showed the emperor a human arm brought in a casket, which they affirmed had been cut off by Athanasius, for the sake of the magic art, from the body of a certain Arsenius. And they also fabricated very many other things at once criminal and shameful.
