Nisi quod Hilarius vir natura lenis et placidus, simulque eruditus, et ad persuadendum commodissimus, rem diligentius et aptius procurabat. Qui etiam libros de fide nobiliter scriptos edidit, quibus et haereticorum versutias, et nostrorum deceptiones, et male credulam simplicitatem ita diligenter exposuit, ut et praesentes, et longe positos, quibus ipse per se disserere viva voce non poterat, perfectissima instructione corrigeret. Ita duo isti viri, velut magnifica quaedam mundi lumina, Illyricum, Italiam, Galliasque suo splendore radiarunt, ut omnes etiam de abditis angulis et abstrusis haereticorum tenebrae fugarentur.

Except that Hilary, a man by nature gentle and peaceable, and at the same time learned and most apt for persuading, managed the affair more diligently and more aptly. He also published books concerning the faith, nobly written, in which he so diligently set forth both the cunning of the heretics, and the deceptions of our own, and an ill-credulous simplicity, that he might correct, by the most perfect instruction, both those present and those placed far off, to whom he could not himself dispute by living voice. Thus these two men, like certain magnificent lights of the world, irradiated Illyricum, Italy, and the Gauls with their splendor, so that all the darknesses of the heretics, even from hidden corners and recesses, were put to flight.
