25:1
Ἴδωμεν τὸ παράδοξον σημεῖον τὸ γινόμενον ἐν τοῖς ἀνατολικοῖς τόποις, τουτέστιν τοῖς περὶ τὴν Ἀραβίαν
讓我們思想那在東方各處，就是在阿拉伯一帶所發生的奇異徵兆。
Let us consider the wonderful sign that takes place in the regions of the East, that is, in the parts about Arabia.
25:2
ὄρνεον γάρ ἐστιν, ὃ προσονομάζεται φοῖνιξ: τοῦτο μονογενὲς ὑπάρχον ζῇ ἔτη πεντακόσια, γενόμενόν τε ἤδη πρὸς ἀπόλυσιν τοῦ ἀποθανεῖν αὐτό, σηκὸν ἑαυτῷ ποιεῖ ἐκ λιβάνου καὶ σμύρνης καὶ τῶν λοιπῶν ἀρωμάτων, εἰς ὃν πληρωθέντος τοῦ χρόνου εἰσέρχεται καὶ τελευτᾷ
有一種鳥名叫鳳凰。牠是獨一無二的，活五百歲；當牠臨近死亡分解的時候，便用乳香、沒藥和別的香料為自己築一個窩，到了日期滿足，牠就進去死在裡面。
For there is a bird which is named the phoenix. This, being the only one of its kind, lives five hundred years; and when it comes near to the dissolution of death, it makes for itself a nest of frankincense and myrrh and the other spices, into which, when the time is fulfilled, it enters and dies.
25:3
σηπομένης δὲ τῆς σαρκὸς σκώληξ τις γεννᾶται, ὃς ἐκ τῆς ἰκμάδος τοῦ τετελευτηκότος ζώου ἀνατρεφόμενος πτεροφυεῖ: εἶτα γενναῖος γενόμενος αἴρει τὸν σηκὸν ἐκεῖνον, ὅπου τὰ ὀστᾶ τοῦ προγεγονότος ἐστίν, καὶ ταῦτα βαστάζων διανύει ἀπὸ τῆς Ἀραβικῆς χώρας ἕως τῆς Αἰγύπτου εἰς τὴν λεγομένην Ἡλιούπολιν
及至那肉身腐爛，便生出一條蟲來，這蟲從那死去之鳥的汁液得著養分，漸漸長出翅膀；及至牠強壯了，就把那放著前鳥骨骸的窩取起，馱著這些骨骸，從阿拉伯之地一直飛到埃及，到那名叫赫利俄波利斯（日城）的城。
But as the flesh decays, a kind of worm is produced, which, being nourished from the moisture of the dead creature, grows wings; then, when it has become strong, it takes up that nest where the bones of the former bird are, and bearing these it makes its way from the land of Arabia as far as Egypt, to the city called Heliopolis.
25:4
καὶ ἡμέρας, βλεπόντων πάντων, ἐπιπτὰς ἐπὶ τὸν τοῦ ἡλίου βωμὸν τίθησιν αὐτὰ καὶ οὕτως εἰς τοὐπίσω ἀφορμᾷ
牠在白晝、眾人眼前，飛落在日頭的壇上，把那些骨骸放在那裡，然後就回到牠原來的地方去。
And in the daytime, in the sight of all, it flies down upon the altar of the sun and lays them there, and so departs again to the place from which it came.
25:5
οἱ οὖν ἱερεῖς ἐπισκέπτονται τὰς ἀναγραφὰς τῶν χρόνων καὶ εὑρίσκουσιν αὐτὸν πεντακοσιοστοῦ ἔτους πεπληρωμένου ἐληλυθέναι
於是祭司們查考歷年的記錄，發現牠正是在第五百年期滿的時候來到的。
Then the priests examine the records of the times and find that it has come at the completion of the five-hundredth year.
