It is right and holy, then, men and brothers, that we should rather become obedient to God than follow those who in arrogance and disorder are the leaders of an abominable jealousy.
For we shall suffer no ordinary harm, but rather great peril, if we recklessly give ourselves over to the wills of those men who hurl themselves into strife and faction, so as to alienate us from what is right.
For it is written: "The kind shall be the dwellers of the land, and the innocent shall be left upon it; but the transgressors shall be utterly cut off from it."
And again it says: "I have seen the impious highly exalted and lifted up like the cedars of Lebanon: and I passed by, and behold, he was not; and I sought his place, and found it not. Keep innocence and behold uprightness, for there is a remnant for the man of peace."
