Μέχρι τούτου ἐλθὼν ὁ μακάριος πατὴρ οὺτος, καὶ καταπαύει τὸ ὑπόμνημα, ὥστε γοῦν εὑρεῖν λίθον γωνιαῖον. τοῦτο δύναται καὶ εἰς τὸν μονογενῆ τοῦ θεοῦ υἱόν, δι ὴμᾶς σαρκωθέντα νοεῖσθαι, κατὰ τὸ ἐν ψαλμοῖς· λίθον ὅν άπεδοκίμασαν οἱ οἰκοδομοῦντες, οἱ τῶν Ἰουδαῖων διδάσκαλοι, οὑτος ἐγενήθη εἰς κεφαλὴν γωνίας. εὐδοκίᾳ γὰρ τοῦ πατρὸς ἐλθὼν ἐπὶ γῆς συνῆψεν ἐν ἑαυτῷ τοὺς δύο λαοὺς τῶν Ἰουδαίων τε καὶ ἐθνῶν, ὥσπερ ἀμέλει καὶ ὁ γωνιαῖος λίθος ἀμφοτέρους συνδεῖ τοὺς τοίχους
這位有福的教父講到此處，便將他的註解止住，停在「尋見房角石」這話上。這話也可解作論到神的獨生子，就是為我們成了肉身的那一位，正如詩篇所說：「匠人所棄的石頭」——就是猶太人的教師所棄的——「已成了房角的頭塊石頭。」因為他照父的喜悅來到地上，在他自己裡面將猶太人與外邦人這兩等子民聯合起來，正如那房角石把兩面牆連結在一起一樣。
Having come this far, this blessed father brings his commentary to rest at the point of 'finding a corner-stone.' This can be understood also of the only-begotten Son of God, who was made flesh for our sakes, according to the word in the Psalms: 'The stone which the builders rejected'—the teachers of the Jews—'this has become the head of the corner.' For by the good pleasure of the Father he came upon the earth and joined together in himself the two peoples, both of the Jews and of the Gentiles, just as, indeed, the corner-stone also binds together both walls.
