5-22:22
[These things which you have endured, do not suppose that they have been judged by me without reason, nor reject my judgment. Let us remember this saying as profitable, whenever God judges that we should suffer something—to lose a child, to forfeit a position of authority, to be sick in body, or to undergo whatever such thing it may be: none of these things can we suffer unless God so judges. Since, then, none of these things happens apart from the judgment of God, it is said to the one who suffers: 'Do not reject my judgment'—that is, do not deny what I have judged concerning you.] Do not think, he says, that these things which you have endured have been judged by me without reason, but rather that I foreknew what was profitable for you; for I added the oracle to your trials for no other reason than that you might be shown to be righteous—that is, that you might be displayed as being what you were.
