2:1
And the heaven and the earth were completed, and all their array.
2:2
And on the sixth day God completed his works that he had made, and he rested on the seventh day from all his works that he had made.
2:3
And God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it he rested from all his works which God had begun to make.
2:4
This is the book of the origin of heaven and earth, when it came to be, on the day that God made the heaven and the earth,
2:5
and every green thing of the field before it came to be upon the earth, and every herbage of the field before it sprang up; for God had not sent rain upon the earth, and there was no human to till the earth.
2:6
But a spring would rise up out of the earth and water the whole face of the earth.
2:7
And God formed the human, dust from the earth, and breathed into his face a breath of life, and the human became a living soul.
2:8
And the Lord God planted an orchard in Edem toward the east, and there he placed the human whom he had formed.
2:9
And God further made to spring up out of the earth every tree beautiful to the sight and good for food, and the tree of life in the midst of the orchard, and the tree of knowing what is knowable of good and evil.
2:10
Now a river goes out from Edem to water the orchard; from there it divides into four heads.
2:11
The name of the one is Phison; this is the one that encircles the whole land of Euilat, there where the gold is.
2:12
And the gold of that land is good; and the carbuncle and the green stone are there.
2:13
And the name of the second river is Geon; this is the one that encircles the whole land of Ethiopia.
2:14
And the third river is the Tigris; this is the one that flows opposite the Assyrians. And the fourth river, this is the Euphrates.
2:15
And the Lord God took the human whom he had formed and placed him in the orchard to till it and to keep it.
2:16
主神吩咐亞當說:「園中各樣樹上的果子,你都可以盡量吃;
And the Lord God commanded Adam, saying, "From every tree that is in the orchard you shall eat for food,
2:17
but of the tree of knowing good and evil, of it you shall not eat; for on whatever day you eat of it, you shall die by death."
2:18
And the Lord God said, "It is not good for the human to be alone; let us make for him a helper corresponding to him."
2:19
And God further formed out of the earth all the wild animals of the field and all the birds of the heaven, and he brought them to Adam to see what he would call them; and whatever Adam called it, a living soul, that was its name.
2:20
And Adam gave names to all the cattle and to all the birds of the heaven and to all the wild animals of the field; but for Adam there was not found a helper like him.
2:21
And God cast a trance upon Adam, and he slept; and he took one of his ribs and filled up flesh in its place.
2:22
And the Lord God built the rib that he had taken from Adam into a woman, and he brought her to Adam.
2:23
And Adam said, "This now is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, because she was taken out of her man."
2:24
For this reason a man will leave his father and his mother and will be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.
2:25
And the two were naked, both Adam and his wife, and they were not ashamed.
