民數記 第 21 章

And the Chananis, king of Arad, who dwelt in the wilderness, heard—for Israel came by the way of Atharin—and he fought against Israel and carried off captives from them.

And Israel vowed a vow to the Lord and said: If you deliver this people into my hand, I will devote him and his cities to destruction.

And the Lord heard the voice of Israel and delivered the Chananis into his hand; and he devoted him and his cities to destruction, and they called the name of that place Anathema.

And departing from Mount Hor by the way to the Red Sea, they went around the land of Edom; and the people became faint-hearted on the way.

And the people spoke against God and against Moses, saying: Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to kill us in the wilderness? For there is no bread nor water, and our soul loathes this worthless bread.

And the Lord sent among the people the deadly serpents, and they bit the people; and many of the people of the sons of Israel died.

And the people came to Moses and said: We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord and against you; pray therefore to the Lord, and let him take away the serpent from us. And Moses prayed to the Lord for the people.

And the Lord said to Moses: Make for yourself a serpent and set it on a standard; and it shall be that if a serpent bites a man, everyone who has been bitten, when he looks at it, shall live.

And Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on the standard; and it came to pass that whenever a serpent bit a man, and he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.

And the sons of Israel departed and encamped in Oboth.

And departing from Oboth, they encamped in Achelgai beyond, in the wilderness which is opposite Moab, toward the rising of the sun.

From there they departed and encamped in the valley of Zared.

And departing from there, they encamped beyond Arnon in the wilderness, the part that projects from the borders of the Amorites; for Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorite.

Therefore it is said in the book: The war of the Lord set Zoob aflame, and the torrents of Arnon.

And he appointed the torrents to settle Er; and it lies close to the borders of Moab.

And from there to the well. This is the well of which the Lord said to Moses: Gather the people, and I will give them water to drink.

Then Israel sang this song at the well: Lead off the song to it!

A well—rulers dug it; kings of the nations hewed it out in their kingdom, when they had dominion. And from the well to Manthanain.

And from Manthanain to Naaliel, and from Naaliel to Bamoth.

And from Bamoth to the glen which is in the plain of Moab, from the top of the hewn place, which looks toward the face of the wilderness.

And Moses sent ambassadors to Sihon king of the Amorites with words of peace, saying:

We will pass through your land. We will go by the road; we will not turn aside either into a field or into a vineyard; we will not drink water from your well; we will go by the royal road until we have passed your borders.

And Sihon did not allow Israel to pass through his borders; and Sihon gathered all his people and went out to array himself against Israel into the wilderness, and he came to Iassa and drew up in battle against Israel.

And Israel struck him with the slaughter of the sword and took possession of his land from Arnon to Jabbok, as far as the sons of Ammon; for Iazer is the border of the sons of Ammon.

And Israel took all these cities, and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon and in all the places belonging to it.

For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, and he had fought against the king of Moab formerly, and they took all his land from Aroer to Arnon.

Therefore those who speak in riddles will say: Come to Heshbon, that the city of Sihon may be built and prepared.

For fire went out from Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon, and it devoured as far as Moab and swallowed up the pillars of Arnon.

Woe to you, Moab! You have perished, people of Chemosh! Their sons were given up to escape, and their daughters as captives to Sihon king of the Amorites.

And their seed shall perish, from Heshbon as far as Daibon; and the women further kindled a fire against Moab.

And Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites.

And Moses sent to spy out Iazer, and they captured it and its villages and drove out the Amorite who dwelt there.

And turning, they went up by the way to Bashan; and Og king of Bashan came out to meet them, he and all his people, to war at Edrain.

And the Lord said to Moses: Do not fear him, for I have delivered him into your hands, and all his people and all his land; and you shall do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon.

And they struck him and his sons and all his people, until they left him none taken alive; and they inherited their land.
