Nec moveat quod hic quoque a juslis antiquis visum legimus Deum: quia non est in hac humiliatione nostra sic visus, sicut in illa clarificatione videndus cst: quandoquidem It sine forma visibilis creaturæ, in qua pro dispensatione temporum, ubi voluit, et quibus voluit justis apparuit, nec potuit, nec potest videri; sed poterit tum ad supernam patriam peregrinatio nostra pervenerit, et mortale nostrum immortalitas beata vestierit; atque ad contemplationem divinam, b perceptionemque coelestium præmiornm omnes vere lideles fides ipsa, qua hic futura credebantur, impleta perduxcrit.
也不要因我們讀到神在此世也曾被古時的義人看見而困惑：因為祂在我們這卑微的境況中被看見，並不像祂在那榮耀中將要被看見的那樣；因為祂若沒有可見受造之物的形體—在這形體裡，祂按時代的安排，在祂所願意之處、向祂所願意之義人顯現—就既不能、也不可能被看見；但當我們的客旅生涯達到天上的家鄉、有福的不死將我們必死的部分穿上之時，祂就要能被看見；並當那信德本身—就是我們在此藉以相信這些將來之事的信—得著應驗，將一切真信徒帶到神聖的默觀並領受天上的賞賜之時，祂就要能被看見。
Nor let it disturb anyone that we read that God was seen here also by the just men of old: for he was not seen in this our humiliation as he is to be seen in that glorification; since indeed, without the form of a visible creature—in which, according to the dispensation of the times, he appeared to the just where he willed and to whom he willed—he neither could nor can be seen; but he will be able to be seen when our pilgrimage shall have come to the heavenly homeland, and blessed immortality shall have clothed our mortal part; and when faith itself, by which these future things were here believed, having been fulfilled, shall have led all the truly faithful to the divine contemplation and the reception of the heavenly rewards.
