78:1
Quapropter si in hac vita justitiam conamur implere, cujus justitiæ opus esi proprium sua cuique tribuere, Deo nos a quo sumnI' facti, reddamus: nec dominari nobis ea quibus sumus naturaliter præpositi permittamus. Dominctur vitiis ratio, subjiciatur corpus animo, animus Deo, et impleta est n hominis tota perfectio. Ac per hoc, et nos justitias facti participes, sua cuique tribuimus, si inferiora melioribus, et virtutibus carnlia oblectamenta subdamus;
所以，倘若我們在今生力求成全公義——公義的本分乃是各歸其分——就讓我們將自己交還給那造我們的神；也不可容許那些我們本被天然立於其上者反來轄制我們。讓理性轄制諸惡，身體順服心靈，心靈順服神，這樣人的全備就成全了。藉此，我們既成了公義的有分者，就各歸其分，如果我們使較低者順服較高者，使屬肉體的歡娛順服諸德；
Wherefore, if in this life we strive to fulfill justice—whose proper work is to render to each his own—let us render ourselves to God, by whom we have been made; nor let us permit those things over which we are naturally set to lord it over us. Let reason rule over the vices, let the body be subject to the soul, the soul to God, and the whole perfection of man is fulfilled. And in this way we too, being made partakers of justice, render to each his own, if we make the lower things subject to the better, and carnal delights subject to the virtues;
78:2
0 et sicut viventia vita carentibus, sensibilia viventibus, intellectualia sensibilibus, immortalia mortalibus, ratiocinando præponimus, ita bene vivendo voluptuosis utilia, utilibus honesta, honestis sancta, P sanctis perfecta omnia præferamus. Verumtamen nec corpus spiritui, nec appetitus obtemperare polcrit rationi, nisi Deus, qui. ipsum spiritum crcavit ct corpus, delectatus cogitationibus nostris, rcquiescatin nobis ac tanquam vcrus agiicola in agro suo, q corde nostro proiiciat: r ut quidquid in co fides plantat, devotio rigat, ipse ad incæmentum consummatæ mauritatis adducat;
並且正如我們藉推理將有生命之物置於無生命之物之上、將有知覺之物置於有生命之物之上、將有理智之物置於有知覺之物之上、將不朽之物置於必朽之物之上，照樣，藉著善度生活，讓我們把有益之物置於享樂之物之上、把高尚之物置於有益之物之上、把聖潔之物置於高尚之物之上、把完全之物置於一切聖潔之物之上。然而，身體不能順服心靈，慾望也不能順服理性，除非那創造心靈與身體的神，因我們的思念而喜悅，住在我們裡面，並如真正的農夫在自己的田地裡，在我們心中撒種，使凡信德所栽、虔敬所澆灌的，祂自己都引向成熟完全的長成；
and just as, by reasoning, we set living things above things lacking life, sentient things above living things, intellectual things above sentient things, immortal things above mortal things, so by living well let us prefer useful things to pleasurable, honorable things to useful, holy things to honorable, and perfect things to all things holy. Nevertheless, neither will the body be able to obey the spirit, nor the appetite to obey reason, unless God, who created the spirit itself and the body, being delighted with our thoughts, rest in us and, as a true husbandman in his own field, cast forth in our heart, so that whatever faith plants in it and devotion waters, He Himself may bring to the increase of consummated maturity;
78:3
atque in nobis voluntarie sibi subjectis dcsidcria mala subjiciat, ut ex ipsis actibus nostris, qui sit habitator noster, el cujus in nobis s fiat voluntas, appareat.
並且在我們這些甘心使自己順服祂的人裡面，祂可制伏邪惡的私慾，使從我們的行為本身就顯明出誰是住在我們裡面的，以及誰的旨意正在我們裡面成就。
and that in us, who voluntarily make ourselves subject to Him, He may subdue evil desires, so that from our very acts it may appear who is our indweller, and whose will is being done in us.
