Itaque sacerdos cui dispensationis cura commissa est, non solum sine cupiditate, sed etiam cum laude pietatis accipit a populo dispensanda, et fideliter dispensat accepta, qui omnia sua e aut parentibus reliquit, aut pauperibus distribuit, aut ecclesiæ rebus adjunxit, et se in numero pauperum paupertatis amore constituit: ita ut unde pauperibus subministrat, inde et ipse i tanquam pauper voluntarius vivat. Clerici quoque quos pauperes aut voluntas, aut nativitas fecit, cum perfectione virtutis vitæ necessaria, sive in domibus suis, sive in congregatione viventes accipiunt: quia ad ea accipienda non eos habendi cupiditas ducit, sed cogit vivendi necessitas.
因此那受託管理之責的祭司，從百姓領受該分發之物，不但毫無貪心，更帶著虔敬的稱許；他既將自己一切的財物或留給父母，或分給窮人，或加入教會的財物，又出於愛慕貧窮把自己列在窮人之中，便忠信地分發所領受的：以致他從供應窮人之源，自己也如同一個自願的窮人那樣度日。那些或因自己的意願、或因出身而成為貧窮的神職人員，無論住在自己家中或住在團體中，都隨同美德的完全領受生活的必需：因為引他們領受這些之物的，不是佔有的貪慾，乃是生活的需要所迫。
Therefore the priest to whom the care of stewardship has been committed receives from the people the things to be dispensed, not only without greed, but even with the praise of piety, and faithfully dispenses what he has received—he who has left all his own goods to his parents, or distributed them to the poor, or joined them to the goods of the Church, and out of love of poverty has placed himself in the number of the poor: so that from the source by which he ministers to the poor, he himself also lives as a voluntary poor man. The clergy too, whom either their own will or their birth has made poor, receive the necessities of life along with the perfection of virtue, whether living in their own houses or in the community: because it is not the greed of having that leads them to receive these things, but the necessity of living that compels them.
