And they set out from Ailim, and all the congregation of the sons of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Ailim and Sina, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they had come out of the land of Egypt.
And the sons of Israel said to them, Would that we had died, struck down by the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat beside the cauldrons of meat and ate bread to the full; for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole congregation with famine.
And the Lord said to Moses, Behold, I am raining bread upon you from heaven; and the people shall go out and gather the portion of a day for its day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in my law or not.
And Moses and Aaron said to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, At evening you shall know that it was the Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt;
And Moses said, When the Lord gives you meat to eat in the evening, and bread in the morning to the full, it is because the Lord has heard your murmuring which you murmur against us. But what are we? For your murmuring is not against us, but against God.
And while Aaron was speaking to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, they turned toward the wilderness, and the glory of the Lord appeared in a cloud.
I have heard the murmuring of the sons of Israel. Speak to them, saying, Toward evening you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread; and you shall know that I am the Lord your God.
And when the sons of Israel saw it, they said one to another, What is this? For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, This is the bread that the Lord has given you to eat.
This is the word that the Lord commanded: Gather of it, each one according to what is fitting for him, a gomor a head, according to the number of your souls; each of you gather for those of your tent.
And when they measured with the gomor, he who had much had nothing over, and he who had less had no lack; each gathered according to what was fitting for himself.
And it came to pass on the sixth day that they gathered double of what was needed, two gomor for each one; and all the rulers of the congregation came and reported it to Moses.
And Moses said to them, This is the word that the Lord spoke: Tomorrow is a sabbath, a holy rest to the Lord. Whatever you would bake, bake, and whatever you would boil, boil; and all that is left over, leave it in store until morning.
See, because the Lord has given you this day, the sabbath, therefore he himself gave you on the sixth day bread for two days; you shall stay each in your houses, and let no one go out from his place on the seventh day.
And Moses said, This is the word that the Lord commanded: Fill a gomor of the man for storage throughout your generations, that they may see the bread that you ate in the wilderness when the Lord brought you out of the land of Egypt.
And Moses said to Aaron, Take one golden jar, and put in it a full gomor of the man, and you shall lay it up before God, to be kept throughout your generations.
