耶利米書 第 48 章

And it happened in the seventh month that Ismael son of Nathanias son of Elasa, of the family of the king, came, and ten men with him, to Godolias at Massepha; and they ate bread there together.

And Ismael rose up, and the ten men who were with him, and they struck down Godolias whom the king of Babylon had appointed over the land.

And also all the Judeans who were with him in Massepha, and all the Chaldeans who were found there.

And it happened on the second day after he had struck down Godolias, and no man knew of it.

And men came from Sychem and from Salem and from Samaria, eighty men, with their beards shaved and their garments torn and gashing themselves, with manaa and frankincense in their hands, to bring into the house of the Lord.

And Ismael went out to meet them; they were going along and weeping. And he said to them: Come in to Godolias.

And it happened, when they had come into the midst of the city, that he slaughtered them into the well.

And ten men were found there, and they said to Ismael: Do not kill us, for we have treasures in the field — wheat and barley, honey and oil. And he passed them by and did not kill them in the midst of their brothers.

And the well into which Ismael threw all those whom he had struck down — this is the great well which king Asa made before the face of Baasa king of Israel; this Ismael filled with the slain.

And Ismael turned back all the people that was left at Massepha, and the daughters of the king whom the chief cook had entrusted to Godolias son of Achikam; and he went off to the region beyond, to the sons of Ammon.

And Ioanan son of Karee and all the commanders of the force who were with him heard of all the evils that Ismael had done.

And they led out their whole camp and went to fight against him, and they found him at the great water in Gabaon.

And it happened, when all the people who were with Ismael saw Ioanan and the commanders of the force that was with him,

then they turned back to Ioanan.

But Ismael escaped with eight men and went off to the sons of Ammon.

And Ioanan and all the commanders of the force who were with him took all the remnant of the people whom he had brought back from Ismael — mighty men in war, and the women and the rest and the eunuchs — whom he had brought back from Gabaon.

And they went and stayed in Gaberoth-chamaam, which is near Bethleem, in order to go and enter into Egypt,

away from the face of the Chaldeans; for they were afraid of them, because Ismael had struck down Godolias, whom the king of Babylon had appointed in the land.
