20:1
ሀለወ ፡ ዘይጌሥጽ ፡ እንዘ ፡ ኢኮነ ፡ ለሠናይ ፡ ወሀለወ ፡ ዘያረምም ፡ እንዘ ፡ ጠቢብ ፡ ውእቱ ።
There is a reproof that is not comely; And there is a man that keeps silence, and he is wise.
有一種責備不合時宜;也有人保持緘默,反顯為智慧。
20:2
ይኄይስ ፡ ትገሥጽ ፡ እምትሒስ ፡ ወቦ ፡ ዘይትጋነይ ፡ እስመ ፡ በኀጢኡ ፡ ተስእኖ ።
How good is it to reprove, rather than to be angry; And he that makes confession will be kept back from hurt.
責備總比動怒好。
20:4
ከመ ፡ ይፈቱ ፡ ኅጽው ፡ ወለተ ፡ ድንግለ ፡ ከማሁ ፡ ዘይፈቱ ፡ የዐምፅ ፡ ፍትሐ ።
As is the lust of an eunuch to deflower a virgin; So is he that executes judgements with violence.
太監想要玷污處女,那以強暴施行審判的人也是如此。
20:5
ወቦ ፡ እንዘ ፡ ያአምር ፡ ዘያረምም ፡ ወቦ ፡ ዘያጸልእ ፡ ርእሶ ፡ በብዝኀ ፡ ነቢቡ ።
There is one that keeps silence, and is found wise; And there is one that is hated for his much talk.
有人緘默,反顯為智慧;也有人因多言而被人厭惡。
20:6
ወቦ ፡ ዘያረምም ፡ እስመ ፡ ኢያአምር ፡ ዘያወሥእ ፡ ወቦ ፡ ዘያረምም ፡ እስከ ፡ ይረክብ ፡ ጊዜሁ ።
There is one that keeps silence, for he has no answer to make; And there is that keeps silence, as knowing his time.
有人緘默,是因無話可答;也有人緘默,是因知道時機。
20:7
ወብእሲ ፡ ጠቢብ ፡ ያረምም ፡ እስከ ፡ ይረክብ ፡ ጊዜሁ ፡ ወአብድሰ ፡ ወዝሉፍ ፡ በከመ ፡ ረከበ ፡ ይነብብ ።
A wise man will be silent till his time come; But the braggart and fool will overpass his time.
智慧人靜默等候時機,誇口的愚人卻錯過時機。
20:8
ለዘያበዝኅ ፡ ነቢበ ፡ ይትቋጥዕዎ ፡ ወለዘኒ ፡ ያዐቢ ፡ ርእሶ ፡ ይጸልእዎ ።
He that uses many words will be abhorred; And he that takes to himself authority therein will be hated.
多言的人必被人厭惡,擅自攬權的人必被人憎恨。
20:9
ቦ ፡ ሰብእ ፡ ዘምንዳቤሁ ፡ ያ [ሤ ]ኅቶ ፡ ወቦ ፡ ዘእንዘ ፡ ይረክብ ፡ ኢይነብሮ ።
There is a prosperity that a man finds in misfortunes; And there is a gain that turns to loss.
有人在禍患中反得亨通;也有人所得的反成虧損。
20:10
ቦ ፡ ዘይሁበከ ፡ ወካዕበቶ ፡ ይትፈደየከ ።
There is a gift that will not profit you; And there is a gift whose recompense is double.
有一種餽贈對你無益;也有一種餽贈,其回報是加倍的。
20:11
ወቦ ፡ ዘእንዘ ፡ ይጼነስ ፡ ያዐቢ ፡ ርእሶ ፡ ወቦ ፡ ዘይከብር ፡ በአትሕቶ ፡ ርእሱ ።
There is an abasement because of glory; And there is that has lifted up his head from a low estate.
有人因榮耀反致卑微;也有人從卑微中抬起頭來。
20:12
ወቦ ፡ ዘይሠይጥ ፡ ብዙኀ ፡ በኅዳጥ ፡ ወየኀሥሥ ፡ ይረስዮ ፡ ምስብዔቶ ።
There is that buys much for a little, And pays for it again sevenfold.
有人以少價買得許多,卻要為此償付七倍的代價。
20:13
ዘጠቢብ ፡ በቃሉ ፡ ያስተቄርብ ፡ ርእሶ ፡ ጸጋሆሙ ፡ ለአብዳን ፡ አልባቲ ፡ ሞገስ ።
He that is wise in words will make himself beloved; But the pleasantries of fools will be wasted.
言語有智慧的人必使自己得人喜愛,愚人的恩惠卻徒然虛擲。
20:14
ይሁብ ፡ አብድ ፡ ዘአልቦቱ ፡ በቊዐ ፡ ለእመኒ ፡ ኅዳጠ ፡ ወሀብ ፡ ብዙኀ ፡ ይመስሎ ፡ ለልቡ ፡ ዘጸገወከ ።
The gift of a fool will not profit you; For his eyes are many instead of one.
愚人的餽贈對你無益,因為他的眼目所求的是加倍償還。
20:15
ወእመኒ ፡ ኅዳጠ ፡ ወሀብከ ፡ ከመ ፡ ዘብዙኀ ፡ ወሀበከ ፡ ይዘረክየከ ፡ ወያዐቢ ፡ አፉሁ ፡ ላዕሌከ ፡ ወየዐውድ ፡ ይንግር ፡ ለከ ፡ ዘወሀብከ ። ዮም ፡ ለእመ ፡ ወሀብከ ፡ ጌሠመ ፡ ይትፈደየከ ፡ መጽልእ ፡ ዘከመዝ ፡ ሰብእ ።
He will give little, and upbraid much; And he will open his mouth like a crier: Today he will lend, and tomorrow he will ask it again: Such an one is a hateful man.
他施與得少,責罵卻多,並像傳令官一樣張口喧嚷;今日借出,明日就索回。這樣的人實在可憎。
20:16
አብድሰ ፡ ይብል ፡ ኢይፈቅድ ፡ ዐርከ ፡ ምንተ ፡ ይበቊዐኒ ፡ እስመ ፡ ኢይረክብ ፡ ዕሴተ ፡ እንተ ፡ ገበርኩ ፡ ሠናይተ ፡ እለኒ ፡ ይሴሰዩ ፡ እክልየ ፡ ያሐሥሙ ፡ አፉሆሙ ፡ ላዕሌከ ።
The fool will say, I have no friend, And I have no thanks for my good deeds; They that eat my bread are of evil tongue.
愚人說:『我沒有朋友,我的善行也得不到感謝。』
20:17
ወዘልፈ ፡ ኵሎሙ ፡ የሐምዩኒ ፡ ወይሥሕቁ ፡ ዲቤየ ።
How often, and of how many, will he be laughed to scorn!
喫他飯食的人,口出惡言;這樣的人,多少次、多少人要譏笑他呢!
20:18
ይኄይስ ፡ ትድኀፅ ፡ ወትደቅ ፡ ዲበ ፡ ምድር ፡ እምትድኀፅ ፡ (በአፉከ ፡)ወትደቅ ፡ በልሳንከ ፡ ከማሁ ፡ ድቀ [ተ ፡እኩይ ፡]፡ ፍጡነ ፡ ትመጽእ ።
A slip on a pavement is better than a slip with the tongue; So the fall of the wicked will come speedily.
在地上失足勝過在舌頭上失言;照樣,惡人的傾覆也必迅速臨到。
20:19
ወዘሰ ፡ ይነብብ ፡ በከመ ፡ ረከበ ፡ ያለስሕ ፡ ርእሶ ፡ ወአልቦ ፡ ሞገሰ ፡ ቃሉ ፡ ውስተ ፡ አፉሆሙ ፡ ለአብዳን ፡ ልሱሕ ፡ ነገር ።
A man without grace is as a tale out of season: It will be continually in the mouth of the ignorant.
無恩的人如同不合時宜的故事,常在無學識之人的口中流傳。
20:20
ወውስተ ፡ አፉሁ ፡ ለአብድ ፡ ይለስሕ ፡ አምሳል ፡ እስመ ፡ ኢይነግራ ፡ በጊዜሃ ።
A wise sentence from a fool’s mouth will be rejected; For he will not speak it in its season.
出自愚人之口的箴言必被棄絕,因為他不會在合宜的時候說出來。
20:21
ወቦ ፡ ለእመ ፡ ከመ ፡ ተጸነሰ ፡ ዘይትመየጥ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ፍርሀተ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ወሎቱ ፡ በሠናይ ፡ ታዐርፍ ፡ ነፍሱ ።
There is that is hindered from sinning through lack; And when he takes rest, he will not be troubled.
有人因貧乏而被攔阻不能犯罪,他在安歇時便不致良心不安。
20:22
ወቦ ፡ ዘበኀፍረት ፡ ያሀጕል ፡ ነፍሶ ፡ ወበእበዲሁ ፡ ይገድፍ ፡ ነፍሶ ።
There is that destroys his soul through bashfulness; And by a foolish countenance he will destroy it.
有人因羞怯而毀了自己的心靈,因愚昧的臉面而失喪了它。
20:23
ወቦ ፡ ዘበኀፍረት ፡ ያስተሴፈዎ ፡ ለማኅፈሩ ፡(እንዘ ፡ ኢይሁብ )፤ወእንበይነዝ ፡ ጸላኤ ፡ ይከውኖ ፡ በከንቱ ።
There is that for bashfulness promises to his friend; And he makes him his enemy for nothing.
有人因羞怯向朋友許下諾言,無故使他成為自己的仇敵。
20:24
እኪት ፡ ኀሳሩ ፡ ለብእሲ ፡ ሐሳዊ ፡ ልሱሕ ፡ ነገሮሙ ፡ ለአብዳን ።
A lie is a foul blot in a man: It will be continually in the mouth of the ignorant.
謊言在人身上是醜惡的污點,常在無學識之人的口中流傳。
20:25
ይኄይስ ፡ ሰራቂ ፡ እምሐስዎ ፡ ወባሕቱ ፡ ለክልኤሆሙ ፡ ሞት ፡ ደኃሪቶሙ ፡ ወኀሳር ።
A thief is better than a man that is continually lying: But they both will inherit destruction.
竊賊勝過慣常說謊的人,但這二者都要承受滅亡。
20:26
እስመ ፡ ሐሳዊ ፡ ሰብእ ፡ የኀስር ፡ ወይትኀፈር ፡ ለዝሉፉ ።
The disposition of a liar is dishonor; And his shame is with him continually.
說謊者的品行是羞辱,他的羞愧常與他同在。
20:27
ዘጠቢብ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ በቃሉ ፡ ይሰማዕ ፡ ነገሩ ፡ ወብእሲ ፡ ጠቢብ ፡ ያሰልጥ ፡ ለመኳንንቲሁ ።
He that is wise in words will advance himself; And one that is prudent will please great men.
言語有智慧的人必使自己長進,明智的人必得權貴的喜悅。
20:28
ዘይትጌበራ ፡ ለምድር ፡ ያዐብያ ፡ ለክምረ ፡ እክሉ ፡ ወዘይፀመድ ፡ መኳንንቲሁ ፡ ይበቊዕ ፡ ለርእሱ ።
He that tils his land will raise his heap high; And he that pleases great men will get pardon for iniquity.
耕種田地的人必堆高他的穀堆,討權貴喜悅的人必得不義之事的赦免。
20:29
አምኃ ፡ ወሕልያን ፡ ያዐውሮሙ ፡ አዕይንቲሆሙ ፡ ለጠቢባን ፡ ወይፈፅም ፡ አፉሆሙ ፡ ወይመይጦሙ ፡ ቃሎሙ ።
Presents and gifts blind the eyes of the wise, And as a muzzle on the mouth, turn away reproofs.
餽贈與禮物矇蔽智慧人的眼目,又如口上的籠套,止住責備。
20:30
ጥበብ ፡ ዘኅቡእ ፡ ከመ ፡ መድፍን ፡ ክቡት ፡ ምንት ፡ እንከ ፡ ረባሖሙ ፡ ለክልኤሆሙ ።
Wisdom that is hid, and treasure that is out of sight, What profit is in them both?
隱藏的智慧、看不見的寶藏,這二者有什麼益處呢?
20:31
ይኄይስ ፡ አብድ ፡ ዘየኀብእ ፡ እበዲሁ ፡ እምጠቢብ ፡ ዘይከብት ፡ ጥበቢሁ ።
Better is a man that hides his folly Than a man that hides his wisdom.
隱藏自己愚昧的人,勝過隱藏自己智慧的人。
