Sanctitatis tuæ suscepi epistolam, solius charitatis calamo scriptam. Ex corde enim lingua tinxerat, quod in chartae pagina refundebat. Boni autem sapientesque viri cum legeretur adfuerunt, quorum statim viscera in compunctione commota sunt. Cœpit quisque amoris manu in suo corde te rapere, quia in illa epistola tuae mentis dulcedinem non erat audire, sed cernere. Accendebantur et mirabantur singuli, atque ipse ignis audientium demonstrabat, qui fuerat ardor dicentis. Nisi enim prius in se faces acdeant, alium non succendunt. Ibi ergo vidimus quanta charitate tua mens arserit, quæ sic et alios accendit.
I received the letter of your Holiness, written with the pen of charity alone. For the tongue had dipped from the heart what it poured out upon the page of the paper. Now good and wise men were present when it was being read, whose inward parts were straightway moved to compunction. Each one began with the hand of love to snatch you into his own heart, because in that letter the sweetness of your mind was not to be heard but to be perceived. They were kindled, and each marveled, and the very fire of the hearers showed what the ardor of the speaker had been. For unless torches first burn in themselves, they do not kindle another. There, then, we saw with how great charity your mind has burned, which thus kindles others also.
我收到了你聖德的書信，是單用慈愛之筆所寫的。因為舌頭從心中蘸取了它所傾注在紙頁上的。當信被誦讀時，良善而智慧的人們在場，他們的內心立刻被感動而痛悔。每人都開始以愛之手把你攫入自己心中，因為在那封信裡，你心靈的甘美不是用聽的，而是用感受的。各人都被點燃、都驚嘆，聽者的這火本身就顯出說者的熱忱曾是何等。因為火炬若不先在自身燃燒，就不能點燃別的。於是在那裡，我們看見你的心曾以何等慈愛燃燒，竟也如此點燃了眾人。

Vitam vero vestram, cujus ego semper' cum magna veneralione reminiscor, minime noverant, sed eis altitudo vestri cordis patuit ex humilitate sermonis.
But your life, which I myself always recall with great veneration, they did not at all know; yet the loftiness of your heart was laid open to them from the humility of your speech.
至於你的生平——我自己常以極大的崇敬追念——他們卻全然不認識；然而你心靈的崇高，竟從你言語的謙卑向他們顯露出來。
