40:1

ዐቢይ፡ ትሕዝብት፡ ፍጥረቱ፡ ለእጓለ፡ እመሕያው፡ ወክቡድ፡ ጾር፡ ላዕለ፡ ውሉደ፡ አዳም፡ እምከመ፡ ይወፅኡ፡ እምከርሠ፡ እሞሙ፡ እስከ፡ አመ፡ ይትቀበሩ፡ ውስተ፡ እመ፡ ኵሉ።

沉重的勞苦是為每個人而設的，重軛壓在亞當的子孫身上，從他們出母腹的那日起，直到歸入萬物之母的那日。

Great travail is created for every man, And a heavy yoke is upon the sons of Adam, From the day of their coming forth from their mother’s womb, Until the day for their burial in the mother of all things.

40:2

ድንጋጼ፡ ይእቲ፡ ወፍርሀተ፡ ልብ፡ ትሕዝብታ፡ ለእለተ፡ ሞት፡ ላዕለ፡ ኵሉ፡ እጓለ፡ እመሕያው።

他們的思慮、心中的懼怕、對未來的揣想、死亡的日子，

The expectation of things to come, and the day of death, Trouble their thoughts, and cause fear of heart;

40:3

እምነ፡ ዘይነብር፡ ላዕለ፡ መንበረ፡ መንግሥት፡ እስከ፡ ነዳይ፡ ዘይሰክብ፡ ውስተ፡ መሬት፡ ወሐመድ።

從坐在榮耀寶座上的，直到塵土爐灰中卑微的人，

From him that sits on a throne of glory, Even to him that is humbled in earth and ashes;

40:5

መዐት፡ ወቅንአት፡ ወጋእዝ፡ ወሁከት፡ ወፍርሀተ፡ ሞት፡ ወቀሐው፡ ወሐኔት፡ ጊዜ፡ ይሰክብ፡ ውስተ፡ ምስካቢሁ፡ ይዌልጥ፡ ኅሊናሁ፡ ንዋመ፡ ሌሊት።

忿怒、嫉妒、煩亂、不安和死亡的懼怕、惱恨與爭競，都臨到他們；就是在牀上安歇的時候，夜間的睡眠也攪亂他的心思。

There is wrath, and jealousy, and trouble, and disquiet, And fear of death, and anger, and strife; And in the time of rest upon his bed His night sleep does change his knowledge.

40:6

ኅዳጥኒ፡ ወኢከመ፡ ምንት፡ ውእቱ፡ ለዕረፍት፡ ወበንዋሙ፡ ይትዐወቆ፡ ወይረክቦ፡ ከመ፡ እንግልጋ፡ ለምዕር፡ ወያወላውላ፡ ለምክረ፡ ልቡ፡ ከመ፡ ዘይነትዕ፡ በውስተ፡ ቀትል።

他得安息片刻，幾乎等於無有；隨後在睡夢中，如同在守望之日，他心中的異象使他驚惶，像是從戰陣前逃脫出來的人；

A little or nothing is his resting, And afterward in his sleep, as in a day of keeping watch, He is troubled in the vision of his heart, As one that has escaped from the front of battle.

40:7

ወዘሰ፡ ይገይስ፡ ያመሥጥ፡ በዕለቱ፡ ለሊሁ፡[ያነክራ]፡ለፍርሀቱ።

正當他得脫險境之時驚醒過來，詫異所懼怕的原來不算甚麼。

In the very time of his deliverance he awakens, And marvels that the fear is nothing.

40:8

ወዝ፡ ምስለ፡ ኵሉ፡ ነፍሰ፡ እጓለ፡ እመሕያው፡ እስከ፡ እንስሳ፡ ዘላዕለ፡ ኃጥኣን፡ ይብእስ፡ ምስብዒተ፡ ዝንቱ፡ ኵሉ።

凡有血氣的，從人到牲畜，都是如此；至於罪人，所受的更要加增七倍。

It is thus with all flesh, from man to beast, And upon sinners sevenfold more.

40:9

ቀትል፡ ወትዝኅርት፡ ወብድብድ፡ ወኲናት፡ ረኃብ፡ ወቊስለ፡ ልብ፡ ወመቅሠፍት።

死亡、流血、爭鬥、刀劍、災禍、饑荒、毀滅與鞭打，

Death, and bloodshed, and strife, and sword, Calamities, famine, tribulation, and the scourge;
