And it came about that when the kingdom of Rehoboam was established and when he was made strong, he forsook the commandments of the Lord, and all Israel with him.
And it came about in the fifth year of the reign of Rehoboam that Sousakim king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had sinned before the Lord,
with a thousand two hundred chariots and sixty thousand horses, and there was no number to the multitude that came with him out of Egypt: Libyans, Troglodytes, and Ethiopians.
And Samaias the prophet came to Rehoboam and to the rulers of Judah who had gathered at Jerusalem from before Sousakim, and said to them, Thus said the Lord: You have forsaken me, and I also will forsake you into the hand of Sousakim.
And when the Lord saw that they had been abashed, the word of the Lord came to Samaias, saying, They have been abashed; I will not utterly destroy them, but I will grant them a little deliverance, and my wrath shall not pour out upon Jerusalem.
And Sousakim king of Egypt came up and took the treasures that were in the house of the Lord and the treasures that were in the house of the king; he took everything, and he took the golden shields which Solomon had made.
And because he had been abashed, the anger of the Lord turned away from him, and it was not to utter destruction; and indeed in Judah there were good words.
And Rehoboam grew strong in Jerusalem and reigned. And Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, in the city which the Lord chose out of all the tribes of the sons of Israel to name his name there. And his mother's name was Noomma the Ammanitess.
And the acts of Rehoboam, the first and the last, behold, are they not written in the words of Samaias the prophet and of Addo the seer, and his deeds? And Rehoboam warred against Jeroboam all the days.
