Amasias was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Joaden, from Jerusalem.
But he did not kill their sons, according to the covenant of the law of the Lord, as it is written, as the Lord commanded, saying, Fathers shall not die for children, and sons shall not die for fathers, but each shall die for his own sin.
And Amasias gathered the house of Judah and set them up according to the houses of their families, as commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds in all Judah and Jerusalem; and he numbered them from twenty years old and upward, and he found them three hundred thousand able to go out to war, holding spear and shield.
And Amasias said to the man of God, And what shall I do about the hundred talents that I gave to the force of Israel? And the man of God said, It is for the Lord to give you much more than these.
And Amasias separated the force that had come to him from Ephraim, to go away to their own place; and they were exceedingly angry with Judah, and they returned to their place in fierce anger.
And ten thousand the sons of Judah took alive, and they brought them to the top of the cliff, and cast them down from the top of the cliff, and they were all broken in pieces.
And the sons of the force whom Amasias sent back so that they should not go with him to war, they fell upon the cities of Judah from Samaria to Baithoron, and they struck down three thousand among them, and they took much spoil.
And it came to pass, after Amasias came from striking Idumea, that he brought to them the gods of the sons of Seir, and set them up for himself as gods, and before them he did obeisance, and to them he himself sacrificed.
And the anger of the Lord came upon Amasias, and he sent prophets to him, and they said to him, Why have you sought the gods of the people who did not deliver their own people out of your hand?
And it came to pass, while he was speaking to him, that he said to him, Have I made you counselor to the king? Take heed, lest you be flogged. And the prophet fell silent, and said, I know that he has purposed against you to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my counsel.
And Joas king of Israel sent to Amasias king of Judah, saying, The achouch that is in Lebanon sent to the cedar that is in Lebanon, saying, Give your daughter to my son as a wife; and behold, the wild beasts of the field that are in Lebanon will come. And the beasts came and trampled down the achouch.
You said, Behold, I have struck Idumea, and your heavy heart lifts you up. Now stay at home; and why do you engage in evil, so that you fall, you and Judah with you?
And Joas king of Israel captured Amasias king of Judah, the son of Joas, at Baithsamus, and brought him into Jerusalem, and pulled down four hundred cubits of the wall of Jerusalem, from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate.
And all the gold and the silver and all the vessels that were found in the house of the Lord and with Abdedom, and the treasures of the king's house, and the sons of the hostages, he took; and he returned to Samaria.
And at the time when Amasias turned away from the Lord, they laid a conspiracy against him, and he fled from Jerusalem to Lachis; and they sent after him to Lachis and put him to death there.
