And in the thirty-eighth year of the reign of Asa, Baasa king of Israel came up against Judah and built Rama, so as to allow no going out or coming in for Asa king of Judah.
And Asa took gold and silver from the treasures of the house of the Lord and of the house of the king, and sent to the son of Ader, king of Syria, who dwelt in Damascus, saying,
Make a covenant between me and you, and between my father and your father. Behold, I have sent you gold and silver. Come and drive away from me Baasa king of Israel, and let him depart from me.
And the son of Ader listened to King Asa, and sent the commanders of his army against the cities of Israel, and struck Ion and Dan and Abelmain and all the surrounding regions of Nephthali.
And at that time Anani the prophet came to Asa king of Judah and said to him, Because you trusted in the king of Syria and did not trust in the Lord your God, therefore the army of Syria escaped from your hand.
Were not the Ethiopians and Libyans a great army, with courage, with horsemen, an exceedingly great multitude? Yet when you trusted in the Lord, he delivered them into your hands.
For the eyes of the Lord look upon all the earth, to strengthen those with a heart wholly toward him. In this you have been ignorant; from now on there will be war with you.
And in the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa became diseased in his feet, exceedingly diseased; and in his disease he did not seek the Lord, but the physicians.
And they buried him in the tomb which he had dug out for himself in the city of David, and they laid him upon the bed and filled it with spices and kinds of perfumes made by perfumers, and they held for him an exceedingly great funeral procession.
