And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his place, and Jehoshaphat prevailed over Israel.

And he placed a force in all the fortified cities of Judah, and he appointed leaders in all the cities of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim which Asa his father had taken beforehand.

And the Lord was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the former ways of his father, and did not seek after the idols;

but he sought the Lord the God of his father, and walked in the commandments of his father, and not according to the works of Israel.

And the Lord established the kingdom in his hand, and all Judah gave gifts to Jehoshaphat, and he had riches and great glory.

And his heart was lifted up in the way of the Lord, and he further removed the high places and the groves out of the land of Judah.

And in the third year of his reign he sent his leaders and the sons of the mighty men — Abdias and Zacharias and Nathanael and Michaias — to teach in the cities of Judah.

And with them were the Levites: Samouias and Nathanias and Zabdias and Asiel and Semiramoth and Jonathan and Adonias and Tobias, the Levites; and with them Elisama and Joram, the priests.

And they taught in Judah, and with them was the book of the law of the Lord; and they went through the cities of Judah and taught the people.

And a terror from the Lord came upon all the kingdoms of the land round about Judah, and they did not make war against Jehoshaphat.

And some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents and silver as tribute; and the Arabians brought him seven thousand seven hundred rams of the flock.

And Jehoshaphat went on becoming greater, even to a height; and he built dwellings in Judea, and fortified cities.

And many works were his in Judea; and there were men of war, mighty and strong, in Jerusalem.

And this is their number according to the houses of their families: for Judah, captains of thousands — Ednas the chief, and with him mighty sons of valour, three hundred thousand;

and after him Joanan the commander, and with him two hundred and eighty thousand;

and after him Amasias the son of Zachri, who was willing for the Lord, and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valour.

And from Benjamin, Eliada, a mighty man of valour, and with him archers and targeteers, two hundred thousand;

and after him Jozabad, and with him a hundred and eighty thousand mighty men of war.

These were they that ministered to the king, besides those whom the king placed in the fortified cities throughout all Judea.
