And Jehoshaphat had yet more riches and great glory; and he made a marriage alliance with the house of Ahab.

And at the end of some years he went down to Ahab at Samaria; and Ahab slaughtered for him many sheep and calves, and for the people that were with him, and he enticed him to go up with him to Ramoth of Gilead.

And Ahab king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat king of Judah, "Will you go with me to Ramoth of Gilead?" And he said to him, "As I am, so also are you; as your people, so is my people with you for the war."

And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, "Seek the Lord, I pray you, today."

And the king of Israel gathered the prophets, four hundred men, and said to them, "Shall I go to Ramoth Gilead to battle, or shall I forbear?" And they said, "Go up, and God will give it into the hands of the king."

And Jehoshaphat said, "Is there not here yet a prophet of the Lord, that we may inquire of him?"

And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "There is yet one man by whom to inquire of the Lord; but I have hated him, for he does not prophesy good concerning me, for all his days are for evil. This is Michaias son of Iemla." And Jehoshaphat said, "Let not the king speak so."

And the king of Israel called one eunuch and said, "Quickly, Michaias son of Iemla."

And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting each on his throne, clothed in robes, sitting in the open place at the doorway of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets were prophesying before them.

And Zedekias son of Chanana made for himself horns of iron, and said, "Thus says the Lord: with these you shall gore Syria until it is finished off."

And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, "Go up to Ramoth Gilead, and you shall prosper, and the Lord shall give it into the hands of the king."

And the messenger who went to call Michaias spoke to him, saying, "Behold, the prophets have spoken good concerning the king with one mouth; let your words, I pray, be like one of theirs, and speak good."

And Michaias said, "As the Lord lives, whatever God says to me, that I will speak."

And he came to the king, and the king said to him, "Michaia, shall I go to Ramoth Gilead to battle, or shall I forbear?" And he said, "Go up, and you shall prosper, and they shall be given into your hands."

And the king said to him, "How many times shall I adjure you that you speak to me nothing but truth in the name of the Lord?"

And he said, "I saw Israel scattered on the mountains, like sheep that have no shepherd. And the Lord said, 'They have no leader; let each return to his own house in peace.'"

And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "Did I not tell you that he does not prophesy good concerning me, but rather evil?"

And he said, "Not so; hear the word of the Lord. I saw the Lord sitting upon his throne, and all the host of heaven standing at his right hand and at his left.

And the Lord said, 'Who will entice Ahab king of Israel, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth Gilead?' And this one spoke thus, and that one spoke thus.

And the spirit came out and stood before the Lord and said, 'I will entice him.' And the Lord said, 'By what means?'

And he said, 'I will go out and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' And he said, 'You shall entice him, and shall also prevail; go out and do so.'

And now, behold, the Lord has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets, and the Lord has spoken evil concerning you."

And Zedekias son of Chanana drew near and struck Michaias on the cheek, and said to him, "By what way did the Spirit of the Lord pass from me to speak to you?"

And Michaias said, "Behold, you shall see in that day in which you go into an inner chamber from an inner chamber to hide yourself."

And the king of Israel said, "Take Michaias and turn him back to Emer the ruler of the city, and to Joas the ruler, the king's son,

and you shall say, 'Thus says the king: Put this man in the prison house, and let him eat the bread of affliction and the water of affliction, until I return in peace.'"

And Michaias said, "If you indeed return in peace, the Lord has not spoken by me." And he said, "Hear, all you peoples!"

And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah went up to Ramoth Gilead.

And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "I will disguise myself and enter into the battle, but you put on my clothing." And the king of Israel disguised himself and entered into the battle.

And the king of Syria commanded the captains of the chariots that were with him, saying, "Do not fight with small or great, but only with the king of Israel."

And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, "It is the king of Israel"; and they surrounded him to fight. And Jehoshaphat cried out, and the Lord saved him, and God turned them away from him.

And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw that he was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from him.

And a man drew the bow with good aim and struck the king of Israel between the lung and the breastplate. And he said to the charioteer, "Turn your hand and take me out of the battle, for I am in pain."

And the battle turned fierce on that day; and the king of Israel was standing in his chariot until evening, facing Syria; and he died as the sun was setting.
