And Ephraim shall no longer have a stronghold to flee to, and there shall no longer be a kingdom in Damascus; and the remnant of the Syrians shall perish; for you are no better than the sons of Israel and their glory. Thus says the Lord Sabaoth.
And it shall be as when one gathers standing grain and reaps with his arm the seed of the ears; and it shall be as when one gathers ears of grain in a hard ravine.
And there shall be left in it stubble, or as it were two or three olive berries on the top of a high bough, or four or five left on their branches. Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel.
And they shall not trust in the high altars, nor in the works of their hands that their fingers made; and they shall not look to their sacred trees nor to their abominations.
Because you forsook God your saviour, and did not remember the Lord your helper; therefore you shall plant an unreliable planting and an unreliable seed.
On the day that you plant, you shall go astray; but in the morning, if you sow, it shall blossom for harvest on the day when you receive your lot; and as a man's father you shall allot it to your sons.
Many nations are like much water, like the force of much water rushing down; and he shall drive it off and chase it far away, like the chaff-dust of winnowers before the wind, and like the dust of a wheel that a whirlwind carries.
Toward evening there shall be mourning; before morning comes, it shall be no more. This is the portion of those who plundered you, and the inheritance of those who took you for an inheritance.
