14:1
So there was the highest expectation of all, to which side it would incline—whether to Alexander's perseverance or to the urgency of Eusebius and Arius. And while the minds of all, in such a matter, were held suspended in expectation, Arius, going to the Church, hemmed in by a throng of bishops and peoples, turned aside to a public place for the necessity of human nature. There, while he was sitting, his entrails and all his bowels flowed out into the pit of the privy: thus in such a place he paid the death worthy of his blasphemous and stinking mind. When this was afterward announced in the Church to Eusebius and to those who together with him were wearying the holy and innocent man Alexander about receiving Arius, overcome with shame and covered with confusion they departed.
Then was fulfilled, to the glory of the Lord, the word which Alexander had proclaimed in his prayer to God, saying: 「Judge, O Lord, between me and the threats of Eusebius and the violence of Arius.」 But these things for the present indeed brought a little shame. But the heretics, conferring among themselves, feared lest perchance, if the matter, as it had been done, should reach the Emperor Constantius intact, he might not only withdraw from their perfidy, in which he was craftily ensnared and held,
but might even decree something more severe by royal authority against the authors of his deception, they arranged, through the eunuchs whom they already held deceived by their perfidy, that the emperor should learn of Arius's death as composedly and ordinarily as possible, and should hear nothing that might seem to indicate God's vengeance. These things being thus done, they pursued the cause of the faith as they had begun.
