Sed nihil gestum est, quod in squalorem verteret locum. Flagitiorum cavernae, veternosa busta dejecta sunt, et veri Dei templa Ecclesiae celsae constructae. Nam et in Serapis sepulcro, prophanis aedibus complanatis, ex uno latere Martyrium, ex altero consurgit Ecclesia. Occasio autem Martyrii construendi unde data sit, dignum arbitror memorare.
But nothing was done that should turn the place into squalor. The caverns of outrages and the decayed tombs were cast down, and temples of the true God, lofty Churches, were built. For even in the sepulchre of Serapis, the profane shrines being levelled, on one side a Martyrium rises, on the other a Church. But from what occasion the building of the Martyrium was given, I judge worthy to record.
然而所行的並未使那地方陷於荒涼。罪惡的洞穴與腐朽的墳墓被拆毀,真神的殿、巍峨的教會卻被建立起來。因為就在塞拉皮斯的墳墓裡,那些褻瀆的廟宇被夷平之後,一邊立起一座殉道堂,另一邊立起一座教會。至於建造這殉道堂的緣由從何而來,我認為值得記述。
