61:1
Igitur in urbe Roma post Damasum Siricius Ecclesiae suscepit sacerdotium. Apud Alexandriam vero defuncto Petro, Timotheus, et post hunc Theophilus: in Jerosolymis autem post Cyrillum Joannes, Apostolicas reparant sedes. Apud Antiochiam vero defuncto Meletio substituitur Flavianus. Sed quod Paulinus adhuc supererat, qui in catholicorum semper societate permanserat, multa ibi jurgia et multae controversiae saepe commotae, nec tamen summa vi nitentibus aliis, aliis obnitentibus , ipsisque in hoc elementis terrae marisque fatigatis, potuit aliquando pacis ullus obtineri modus, cum utique fidei jam nulla videretur subesse discordia. Hoc idem apud Tyrum fuit:
Therefore, in the city of Rome, after Damasus, Siricius received the priesthood of the Church. At Alexandria, indeed, Peter having died, Timothy, and after him Theophilus; at Jerusalem, after Cyril, John, restored the Apostolic sees. At Antioch, however, Meletius having died, Flavian was substituted. But since Paulinus still survived, who had always remained in the society of the catholics, many quarrels and many controversies were often stirred up there; and yet, though others strove not with the utmost force, and others resisted, and the very elements of land and sea were wearied in this, hardly could any measure of peace at any time be obtained—although surely no discord of faith seemed to underlie it. The same was the case at Tyre:
61:2
There, when Diodorus—surely one of the ancient catholics, a man proved by the evidences of trials—had been made bishop by the confessors on the testimony of Athanasius, his modesty being scorned, another was ordained from the party of Meletius. But also in many other cities of the East, contention of this kind begot confusions among the priests. At Constantinople, however, Nectarius, a former Urban Praetor, a catechumen recently having obtained baptism, received the priesthood.
