Having learned the will of the most clement prince from those letters which he sent to us, we were astonished that so narrow a time was appointed for the assembling of the synod, since even if no necessity of hostility existed, the very scarcity of the intervening days would not allow us to summon the necessary priests. For when should we send through the various and far-distant provinces, that a council might truly be able to become universal? But because we embrace the will of the most clement prince with such affection that we have been unwilling to obstruct this disposition of his—especially since he himself also requests this of us with great desire—we have caused our brother and fellow-bishop PASCHASINUS, a man approved by us, from a more secure province, to sail:
129:2
Data sexto kalendas Julii , Adelfio viro clarissimo consule .
to whom we have joined our fellow-presbyter BONIFACE from the City; associating with them also those who had previously been ordained, so that, with our brother and fellow-bishop JULIAN—whose faith we have often approved—as a participant in all the proceedings, they may use our place in the future council. For neither do we believe that there any difficulties of contentions need be labored over, since you yourself also have deigned to indicate that in the receiving of the catholic faith and the condemnation of Eutyches and of Nestorius all the Eastern priests have subscribed. Given on the sixth day before the Kalends of July, in the consulship of the most illustrious man Adelfius.
