First Epistle of Clement 7

These things, beloved, we write not only to admonish you, but also to remind ourselves; for we are in the same arena, and the same contest lies before us.

Therefore let us forsake empty and vain cares, and come to the glorious and venerable rule of our tradition.

And let us see what is good and pleasing and acceptable in the sight of Him who made us.

Let us fix our gaze upon the blood of Christ, and understand how precious it is to His Father, because, being poured out for our salvation, it brought to all the world the grace of repentance.

Let us pass through all the generations and learn that in generation after generation the Master gave a place of repentance to those who would turn to Him.

Noah preached repentance, and those who obeyed were saved.

Jonah preached destruction to the Ninevites; but those who repented of their sins propitiated God by their supplications and received salvation, though they were strangers to God.
