📖 This chapter exists in 3 other originals — side by side (Hebrew Old Testament, Septuagint, Ge'ez Bible)
⚠️ Psalms use Masoretic (Hebrew) numbering, which differs from printed Vulgate and Septuagint editions: Ps 18 here = Ps 17 in print. Convert before citing a printed edition.
ℹ️ This corpus has no morphological tagging. Glosses are matched by word form against a dictionary — a match does not prove it is the same word (an inflected form can coincide with another word’s lemma). Verify against the original and a specialist lexicon where precision matters.
⚠️ The Chinese and English alongside are the CUV and the WEB, both translated from the Masoretic Text; they follow a different textual tradition from the Greek and Latin shown here and will disagree in places.
ℹ️ Some verses here have no matching verse in the public-domain translations (the Psalm superscriptions are not numbered verses in the CUV or the WEB). Those verses were translated by this site with AI (Claude), not taken from the WEB.

In finem.
To the end. For David, the servant of the Lord, who spoke to the Lord the words of this song in the day the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul, and he said:

I love you, Yahweh, my strength.
18:2
Dominus firmamentum meum, et refugium meum, et liberator meus. Deus meus adjutor meus, et sperabo in eum ; protector meus, et cornu salutis meae, et susceptor meus.
Yahweh is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower.
I call on Yahweh, who is worthy to be praised; and I am saved from my enemies.
18:4
Circumdederunt me dolores mortis, et torrentes iniquitatis conturbaverunt me.
The cords of death surrounded me. The floods of ungodliness made me afraid.
18:5
Dolores inferni circumdederunt me ; praeoccupaverunt me laquei mortis.
The cords of Sheol were around me. The snares of death came on me.
In my distress I called on Yahweh, and cried to my God. He heard my voice out of his temple. My cry before him came into his ears.
Then the earth shook and trembled. The foundations also of the mountains quaked and were shaken, because he was angry.
Smoke went out of his nostrils. Consuming fire came out of his mouth. Coals were kindled by it.
18:9

Yahweh also thundered in the sky. The Most High uttered his voice: hailstones and coals of fire.
18:14
Et misit sagittas suas, et dissipavit eos ; fulgura multiplicavit, et conturbavit eos.
He sent out his arrows, and scattered them. He routed them with great lightning bolts.
Then the channels of waters appeared. The foundations of the world were laid bare at your rebuke, Yahweh, at the blast of the breath of your nostrils.

Eripuit me de inimicis meis fortissimis, et ab his qui oderunt me. Quoniam confortati sunt super me ;
He delivered me from my strong enemy, from those who hated me; for they were too mighty for me.

quia custodivi vias Domini, nec impie gessi a Deo meo ;
For I have kept the ways of Yahweh, and have not wickedly departed from my God.
18:22
quoniam omnia judicia ejus in conspectu meo, et justitias ejus non repuli a me.
For all his ordinances were before me. I didn’t put away his statutes from me.

18:25
With the merciful you will show yourself merciful. With the perfect man, you will show yourself perfect.
With the pure, you will show yourself pure. With the crooked you will show yourself shrewd.
18:27
Quoniam tu populum humilem salvum facies, et oculos superborum humiliabis.
For you will save the afflicted people, but the arrogant eyes you will bring down.

For by you, I advance through a troop. By my God, I leap over a wall.
18:30
Deus meus, impolluta via ejus ; eloquia Domini igne examinata : protector est omnium sperantium in se.
As for God, his way is perfect. Yahweh’s word is tried. He is a shield to all those who take refuge in him.
18:31
Quoniam quis deus praeter Dominum ? aut quis deus praeter Deum nostrum ?
For who is God, except Yahweh? Who is a rock, besides our God,
18:32
Deus qui praecinxit me virtute, et posuit immaculatam viam meam ;
the God who arms me with strength, and makes my way perfect?
18:33
qui perfecit pedes meos tamquam cervorum, et super excelsa statuens me ;
He makes my feet like deer’s feet, and sets me on my high places.
18:34
qui docet manus meas ad praelium. Et posuisti, ut arcum aereum, brachia mea,
He teaches my hands to war, so that my arms bend a bow of bronze.
18:35
et dedisti mihi protectionem salutis tuae : et dextera tua suscepit me, et disciplina tua correxit me in finem, et disciplina tua ipsa me docebit.
You have also given me the shield of your salvation. Your right hand sustains me. Your gentleness has made me great.
You have enlarged my steps under me, My feet have not slipped.
I will pursue my enemies, and overtake them. I won’t turn away until they are consumed.
18:38
Confringam illos, nec poterunt stare ; cadent subtus pedes meos.
I will strike them through, so that they will not be able to rise. They shall fall under my feet.
18:39
Et praecinxisti me virtute ad bellum, et supplantasti insurgentes in me subtus me.
For you have armed me with strength to the battle. You have subdued under me those who rose up against me.
18:40
Et inimicos meos dedisti mihi dorsum, et odientes me disperdidisti.
You have also made my enemies turn their backs to me, that I might cut off those who hate me.
They cried, but there was no one to save; even to Yahweh, but he didn’t answer them.
Then I beat them small as the dust before the wind. I cast them out as the mire of the streets.
18:43
Eripies me de contradictionibus populi ; constitues me in caput gentium.
You have delivered me from the strivings of the people. You have made me the head of the nations. A people whom I have not known shall serve me.
18:44
Populus quem non cognovi servivit mihi ; in auditu auris obedivit mihi.
As soon as they hear of me they shall obey me. The foreigners shall submit themselves to me.
The foreigners shall fade away, and shall come trembling out of their strongholds.
18:46
Vivit Dominus, et benedictus Deus meus, et exaltetur Deus salutis meae.
Yahweh lives! Blessed be my rock. Exalted be the God of my salvation,
even the God who executes vengeance for me, and subdues peoples under me.
18:48
Et ab insurgentibus in me exaltabis me ; a viro iniquo eripies me.
He rescues me from my enemies. Yes, you lift me up above those who rise up against me. You deliver me from the violent man.
18:49
Propterea confitebor tibi in nationibus, Domine, et nomini tuo psalmum dicam ;
Therefore I will give thanks to you, Yahweh, among the nations, and will sing praises to your name.
18:50
magnificans salutes regis ejus, et faciens misericordiam christo suo David, et semini ejus usque in saeculum.
