'Today, with the Lord's help, we celebrate the birthday of the apostles, whose memory the whole world embraces,' etc. It ends: 'The magician flies, he seeks the heights, that he may fall the more deeply; you set your head to the earth, that being slain you may possess heaven, God granting it,' etc. After so many excellent orations of our Saint Maximus concerning the holy apostles Peter and Paul, which we gave above, we would seem to have lost our sense of judgment if we assigned this wretched heap of words to him. It is rightly noted that the sermon was copied from codex 3817 of the fourteenth century, for it answers to the wretchedness of that age.
