'The most chaste womb of the Virgin Mary, the sealed chamber of the Virgin bride's body, the upper room marked with modesty, I would most fully praise as it deserves,' etc. It ends: 'Rejoice therefore, Joseph, and rejoice exceedingly in the virginity of Mary at the birth of the Redeemer and at the manifestation of the Savior; and thus Joseph was separated from union with his wife, that he might be called the father of the Savior,' etc. We have it restored from the royal library codex 3786, confirmed, as is reported, by several other manuscript codices. The Maurists placed it in the appendix of Saint Augustine's sermons, Paris edition, page 323. We utterly reject it, and anyone who has even lightly tasted Saint Maximus of Turin will agree with us.
