What we judge concerning the mind of your beloved reverence you have often recognized: for very many things have gone before which would make us presume this. Wherefore, since on this account, according to the will of the most Christian prince, a sacerdotal synod is to be held in the city of Nicaea, that the din of all the scandals may be removed, we of necessity enjoin upon your fraternity what may profit the whole Church, that with our brothers and fellow-bishops Paschasinus and Lucentius, and also with our brothers and fellow-presbyters Boniface and Basil, whom we have directed to go in our stead to the aforesaid assembly, you would join your care and action in all things, employing the authority of our injunction: since we know that you have a greater knowledge of all the things there transacted than our own men:
so that, while you associate your care and counsel with them, they may in no part be deceived; but that all things, God helping, may come to effect which you shall have approved as befitting the faith and peace.
