Sanctarum solemnitatum, dilectissimi, ordine celebrato et spiritalis laetitiae devotione completa, oportet nos ad salubritatem recurrere parcitatis, remediumquejejunii et exercendis mentibus et castigandis adhibere corporibus: ut quia nos satis de hoc et divina monita et propria experimenta docuerunt, primum per sacratissimoru In dierum recursum divinae pietati gratias referamus, tum sanctas continentiae delicias appetentes, aliquantulum nobis de terrenorum ciborum abundantia subtrahamus: 319 ita ut proficiat eleemosynis quod non impenditur mensis. Tunc enim demum ad animae curationem proficit medicina jejunii, cum abstinentia jejunantis esuriem reficit indigentis.
至親愛的諸位，眾聖節慶既已按次序慶祝、屬靈喜樂的虔誠既已圓滿，我們就當回歸節制的有益之道，並運用禁食這帖良藥，一面鍛鍊心靈，一面懲治肉身：這樣，既然天主的訓誨與我們自身的經驗都已充分教導我們此事，我們就當首先為這些至聖之日的重臨，向天主的慈善獻上感恩；繼而追求節制的聖潔喜樂，為自己稍稍減省地上食物的豐足：使那不用在餐桌上的，能在施捨上結出益處。因為唯有當禁食者的節制紓解了貧困者的飢餓時，禁食這帖良藥才終於有益於靈魂的醫治。
The holy solemnities, dearly beloved, having been celebrated in their order, and the devotion of spiritual gladness having been fulfilled, it behooves us to have recourse to the wholesomeness of frugality, and to apply the remedy of fasting both for exercising our minds and for chastising our bodies: so that, since both the divine admonitions and our own experiences have sufficiently taught us of this, we may first render thanks to the divine goodness for the return of these most sacred days, and then, seeking the holy delights of continence, withdraw somewhat for ourselves from the abundance of earthly foods: so that what is not spent upon the table may profit in alms. For the medicine of fasting then at last profits the healing of the soul, when the abstinence of the one fasting refreshes the hunger of the needy.

Quia ergo scimus apud misericordem Deum jejuniis præcellere eleemosynae largitatem, dicente ipso Domino: Date eleemosynam, et omnia munda suntvobis (Luc. XI, 41): si animas nostras a peccatorum sordibus cupimus emundari, eleemosynam pauperibus non negemus, ut in die retributionis ad promerendam Dei misericordiam, misericordiae operibus adjuvemur, per Christum Dominum nostrum. Amen.
因此，既然我們知道，在慈悲的天主面前，施捨的慷慨勝過禁食——主親自說：『你們把所有的施捨了，看，一切對你們便都潔淨了』（路十一41）：那麼，我們若渴望自己的靈魂從罪污中得潔淨，就不要拒絕施捨給貧窮人，好使在報應之日，為蒙得天主的憐憫，我們能藉憐憫的善工得到扶助，靠著我們的主基督。阿們。
Since therefore we know that with the merciful God the largeness of almsgiving surpasses fasts, the Lord himself saying: 'Give alms, and behold, all things are clean unto you' (Luke 11:41): if we desire our souls to be cleansed from the filth of sins, let us not deny alms to the poor, so that on the day of retribution, to obtain God's mercy, we may be aided by works of mercy, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
