synodos horumque decreta abolevit, retractavitque, quandocumque divinis apostolicisque institutis non cohærebant; saluberrimas condidit leges, pro disciplinæ ecclesiasticæ vigore reparando atque tuendo; lapsis indulgentiam dare prohibuit, quoties pœnitentia salutari præteritam contumaciam sincero corde non retractassent; nequi tandem pœnarum canonicarum relaxationes iisdem impertiri voluit, nisi aliqua publicæ utilitatis et perfectæ concordiæ causa id postulasset. Certe magnifìcus, atque gloriosus, et vere admirabilis in Ecclesiæ negotiis admjnistrandis repertus est. Et polissimum quia post adeptum summum pontificatum Ecclesia quatuor horrendis illis hæresibus fœdabatur;
他廢除並撤銷諸會議及其決議，每逢它們與神聖和使徒的典章不相符合之時；他設立極有益處的律法，為要恢復並護衛教會紀律的活力；他禁止對失足背道者施以寬赦，每逢他們未曾以真誠的心，藉著拯救的悔改，撤回他們過去的頑梗之時；末了，他不願將教規刑罰的寬鬆賜給他們，除非有某種公眾利益與完全和睦的緣由要求如此。他在治理教會的事務上，誠然被看為宏偉、榮耀、且真正可敬可佩。尤其是因為，在他得了至高教皇之職以後，教會正被那四樣可怕的異端所玷污；
he abolished and revoked synods and their decrees, whenever they did not accord with the divine and apostolic institutions; he established most salutary laws for restoring and safeguarding the vigor of ecclesiastical discipline; he forbade indulgence to be given to the lapsed, as often as they had not with a sincere heart, by saving penance, retracted their past obstinacy; and finally he was unwilling that relaxations of the canonical penalties be imparted to them, unless some cause of public utility and of perfect concord had demanded it. Certainly he was found magnificent, and glorious, and truly admirable in administering the affairs of the Church. And chiefly because, after he had attained the supreme pontificate, the Church was being defiled by those four horrendous heresies;

et totus Oriens duodecim annorum spatio turbabatur, columnis Ecclesiæ dejectis aut vacillantibus; et tamen ex hac luce non prius decessit quam parta ubique pace et obmutescentibus undequaqne hæreticorum turbis.
且整個東方在十二年之久的期間被攪擾不安，教會的柱石或被傾倒、或在搖晃；然而他並未離開此世之光，直到平安在各處被成就，異端者的群眾在四面八方都緘默無聲之後。
and the whole East for the space of twelve years was thrown into turmoil, the pillars of the Church being cast down or wavering; and yet he did not depart from this light before peace had been brought about everywhere and the throngs of the heretics had fallen silent on every side.
