With how great ardor I thirst to see you, because you love me greatly, you will read in the tablets of your heart. But because I cannot see you, separated by so great a span of lands, the one thing which charity dictated to me concerning you I have done, namely, I took care to transmit to your Holiness the book of the Pastoral Rule, which I wrote at the outset of my episcopate, and the books which you knew I had long since made in exposition of blessed Job.
