117:1
Unde sibi videntur paschaliS festi agere sacramentum, cujus hodie omnis Ecclesia initium sumit, mysterium intelligit, præmium concupiscit, quod sermo Domini discipulis suis evidenter insinuat dicens: Scitis quia post biduum Pascha fiet (Matth. XXVI, 2)?
By such a ritual of superstition is the impiety of the rebellious Jews punished, that they eat with veneration a corruptible animal, that is, a lamb, while with most perilous hunger they despise the food of the true and spotless Lamb. Hence they seem to themselves to perform the sacrament of the Paschal feast, whose beginning the whole Church today takes up, whose mystery it understands, whose reward it desires — which the word of the Lord clearly implies to His disciples, saying: You know that after two days the Pasch will come to pass (Matt. 26:2)? It is one thing to say 'it will be' or 'it will be celebrated,' and another that the Pasch 'shall come to pass.' Let the Jew therefore count for me, from the exodus of Israel until now, as many years as he wishes:
117:2
cæterum Pascha primum adhuc post biduum fiet, cum praeleritas implens figuras, sicut Aposlolus ait, Pascha nostrum immolatus est Christus (I Cor. m, 16).
for the rest, the first Pasch is even now still to come to pass after two days, when, fulfilling the past figures, as the Apostle says, Christ our Pasch has been sacrificed (1 Cor. 5:7).
