119:1
Pelagus, inquit, operuit caput meum (Jon. II, 6).
The deep, he says, covered my head (Jon. 2:6). And not in vain did he say this of the head alone, whom without doubt the deep had covered on every side; but the reproach of the world hid the Lord of heaven. The head of the man is Christ, and the head of Christ is God (1 Cor. 11:3). My lowliness veiled my glory, and God (2 Cor. 5:19), who was present as it were as head in Christ, reconciling the world to Himself, could not be discerned by those who had fastened the man to the gibbet.
