⚠️ Psalms use Masoretic (Hebrew) numbering , which differs from printed Vulgate and Septuagint editions: Ps 39 here = Ps 38 in print . Convert before citing a printed edition.
ℹ️ This corpus has no verse-level morphological tagging . Lemmas come mainly from word-level tagging of other books in the same language (not from this verse), falling back to dictionary form-matching for the rest. Rare homographs can still be misread; verify against the original and a specialist lexicon where precision matters.
ℹ️ The Chinese and English alongside are this site's own translation , made directly from the original text on this page (not the CUV or the WEB, which follow the Masoretic Text and a different textual tradition).

I said: I will guard my ways, so as not to sin with my tongue; I set a guard for my mouth while the sinner stood before me.
I was made mute and was humbled, and I kept silent from good things, and my pain was renewed.
My heart grew hot within me, and in my meditation a fire will burn; I spoke with my tongue:
Make known to me, O Lord, my end, and what is the number of my days, that I may know what I lack.
Behold, you have made my days a handbreadth, and my substance is as nothing before you; indeed, all things together are vanity—every living man. Interlude.
Surely man goes about as an image; surely they are troubled in vain; he heaps up treasure and does not know for whom he will gather it.
And now, what is my endurance? Is it not the Lord? And my substance is from you.
Deliver me from all my lawless deeds; you have made me a reproach to the fool.
I was made mute and did not open my mouth, because it is you who made me.
Remove your scourges from me; because of the strength of your hand I have failed.
With reproofs for lawlessness you disciplined man, and you made his soul melt away like a spider's web; surely every man is troubled in vain. Interlude.
Hear my prayer, O Lord, and give ear to my supplication; do not be silent at my tears. For I am a sojourner with you and a stranger, as all my fathers were.
Give me relief, that I may be refreshed before I depart and am no more.
