Licet nulla quibus ad præsumendum hoc ipsuin officium provocaret, vestri apostolatus scripta prome. ruero, offerre me tamen paginam debiti famulatus, cum compellatione non jusseritis. oninione compelliLis. Siquidem ad occurrendum animis vestris, si non meremur aspectibus, fama trahimur, etiam dum absentia cohibemur. His additur, quod ita ærumnas infelicium Gallorurn consolatione consilii et largitate palpatis, ut sub specic ejus quam comperi misericordiæ, ad agnoscendam suorum necessitatem in Ilaliam festinantes, post longam peregrinationem, cum duce Christo vestram mei uerint vidcre personam, merito propriam credant intrare se patriam.
Although I have earned no writings of your apostolate by which I might be provoked to presume this very office, nevertheless you compel me by your opinion to offer a page of the service I owe, even when you have not bidden it by a summons. For to run to meet your minds, if we do not deserve it by sight, we are drawn by fame, even while we are held back by absence. To this is added that you so console the distresses of the unhappy Gauls by consolation of counsel and by bounty, that under the appearance of that mercy which I have learned, those hastening into Italy to acknowledge the necessity of their own, after a long pilgrimage, when with Christ their guide they have been able to see your person, deservedly believe that they are entering their own homeland.
雖然我未曾蒙受你使徒職分的任何書信，可以催我斗膽承擔此職，然而你卻以你的美意迫使我獻上這篇我所當盡職事的書頁，即或你未曾以召喚吩咐我如此行。因為要奔去迎見你們的心，我們若不能藉相見而配得，便被美名所吸引，縱使我們因遠隔而被攔阻。再者，你以謀劃的安慰與慷慨的施捨，如此安慰不幸高盧人的患難，以致在我所聽聞那憐憫的表象之下，那些急速進入義大利、要認明自己人需要的人，經過漫長的旅程之後，當他們以基督為嚮導得見你其人時，便理當認為自己正踏進了本鄉。

Commendo quod superest regionis nostrae presbyterum, praesentis scilicet obsequii portitorem. Qui licet pro redimenda cujusdam propinqui sui filia laborem fatigationis aggressus sit, a quodam tamen nobili viro provinciali cum mea prosecutione directus est, ut præfati filium a c comite Betanco, nomine Avulum, ante hos circiter quatuor annos pro pignore obsidatus assumptum, sub auxilio vestrae intercessionis requirat ac revocet. Quod superest obsecro, ut dignabili beatitudinis vestrae rescripto, et illic exsultantibus ingenuitatis statum reparabilem, et hic desiderantibus scribendi aditum doccatis esse communem.

For what remains I beseech, that by the gracious rescript of your beatitude you would teach both those there exulting that the estate of freeborn status is recoverable, and those here desiring it that the approach of writing is held in common.
